Desert map, what is causing my plants to die (or appear dead)

Is it a lack of water getting to them? Not harvested in time? There is not really any thing that tells you what happens. Other than I can plant new seeds over them, but how do I correct the problem? Would be nice if I could use the magnifying glass to identify the crop and why it died or something.

If the crop goes unwatered for 2 minutes, it will dry out. if a crop goes unharvested for 4 minutes, it will also dry out. this mechanic only applies to desert farm ( on help section in game :))

another thing that can help is prioritizing Echo's Workshop and upgrading your water bots and harvest bots early. once their speed & capacity are upgraded a couple times, dead plants become a lot rarer
