1) use 2x2 plots. Since he only seeds entirely empty plots, this is the fastest to clear for yield.
2) Use signs. The npc that sells decoration, has signs that you can use to tell Splunk what seeds to sow. Note: you need to have unlocked the crop to get the sign. ex. I am currently farming for giant pumpkin. I have 6 2x2 plots with signs for pumpkins. Everytime they are empty, Splunk will seed it with pumpkin. The rest of my plots save wheat, is "eh, spray whatever"
3) You need to balance fast and slow harvest crops. this is where a lot of people complain about Splunky's speed and indecision. It takes about 10 seconds for Splunky to sow a 2x2 plot. When Splunky is done, it looks for the next plot. It seems, the logic values "how recent/long a plot has been fallow". So while Splunky is standing right next to a plot, off screen another one might have also been 'just' harvested. So Splunky goes there.
For me, with fertilizer, my wheat is harvested once every minute. I use 4 2x2 plots, just for wheat. Any more, the rest of my plots barely get seeded. I also put the wheat plots very "central" Then I put 2 kale crops (or use your longest harvest crop) on each end of the crop sowing area of your farm. In this way, Splunky will be mainly in the center of the crop growing area, Then move out to the edges as needed.
Next. on my main 'farm'/save. I dont have "that" much in farmable plots. the two side unlocks. Thats basicly all I use to throw down plots. The outer edges are for animals/Bioreactor. The 2 sections in from the edge, is for berries. The center is all farm crops. In this way, Splunky isnt walking from one far edge to another. Keeping your crop plots central is very important I feel to maximizing the use of Splunky.
Splunky is a great buy. You just have to have an idea of how to lay things out to maximise Splunky's use
