From the patch notes:

"Build 1.0.5 - Fixed animals magically converting into cows when saving/loading. This only happened if you moved a feeder that already had animals occupying it. Unfortunately, this fix only applies to future savefiles and it doesn't fix past savefiles."

Would love to know how to do this because I would also like to get rid of my farms. I just got the pig farm achievement and REALLY want to get rid of all these excess animals that I absolutely don't need.

I know I'm late with the solution, but I found a way to remove the animals by editing the save file. You just have to go to the save file in AppData\LocalLow\MisterMorrisGames\Rusty's Retirement, the last save file is a .txt (you can save the game and see which one is the last one to be updated, in my case it is called "H0-2024-12-25-3-58-57.txt") and inside the file we use the search tool to search: "animalInfo" : [

By performing that search we will get something like this:

"animalInfo" : [
{
"animalId" : -1
},{
"animalId" : -1
},{
"animalId" : 7
},{
"animalId" : 1
},{
"animalId" : 3
},{
"animalId" : 5
}

Here you just have to change those values to -1, since -1 is an empty space in the corresponding slot of the feeder. If you set all of them to -1 you can remove the feeder later in game without any problems.
