Can you play on multiple maps at once?
I just unlocked the second map and I don't see an option to switch between it and my original farm so I can play both maps at once. Is there a way to do that? I hope this isn't the end of the first farm, as I had lots more to do there.

When you start the game you can start a new farm. After you start it, you will be able to click "Load" and select which farm you want run. I hope that answers what you are asking.

Okay if I understand that, it means when you want to switch farms you need to close the game and start it again to choose which map you want to play?

Thanks! Is this like an idle game where time goes by on a map even if the game is closed or if you are playing another map? I guess I will find out, but it would be helpful to know.

I don't know for certain, but I'm guessing no based on inspecting the game in a debugger quickly.

I can confirm if you close the game, time does NOT go by. I shut the game down when I go to bed, and picked up right where i saved the night before (no change).

I expect swapping maps would be the same way.

in setting you have "main menu" and from there you can load the other save/map. you don't need close the game every time.

Edit: the approach I took has an issue which might make it a dealbreaker to you. I describe the issue and possible fixes in the next post

What works for me is to right click on the game

>manage>browse local files

and then run RustyLAUNCHER.exe twice or how every many farms you want to run at the same time

CAUTION
I just tried this out, looks to work fine but I highly recommend:
-You make a backup of this game before trying it out by right clicking>Backup local game files
-You don't run the same farm multiple times. I expect this to cause issues, either the instance of that farm gets saved last just gets to be the version of your farm youll boot into next time, or some other funky behaviour will show itself. I doubt both instances of that same farm can constantly sync, but maybe it can. Definitely back up your game if you try this.

Hope this helps :steamhappy: I just figured this out so I don't know if there are any issues with this approach, so maybe make a backup every now and then until you feel safe with using this.

Just found an issue: if all instances are launched via RustyLauncher.exe instead of the play button, steam won't recognize you are actually playing the game. If you care about counting playtime or getting achievements, you might want to either steer away from doing this or checking if some of these approaches work for you:

Lets say you really want those achievements

Experiment 1: after you completed criteria for an achievement you shouldve completed (apart from the play 24 hrs one possibly), launch the game via the play button and see if steam syncs (make sure you are online though, as far as I can remember, steam wont sync avhiements)

Experiment 2: launch one instance of the game via RustyLauncher and the other via the play button. I presume the one that gets launched by the play button will work, but try to see if unlocking an achievement on the RustyLauncher instance works. Using this method will at least count your hours.

I'm going to try to see if using a steam:rungameid uri can launch the game multiple times, but I doubt it. I will report the results here
So I just took the URI from the shortcut that opens Rusty's retirement and pasted it into my browser (wouldnt make any difference compared to just using the shortcut two times, dont know why I did) and as expected, steam did not fw having two instances of the same game open at the same time

Edit: this guy right here
