Request for Windward Horizon Dedicated Server Setup Details
Hello Tasharen Entertainment Support Team,

I'm excited to set up a dedicated private server for Windward Horizon to play with friends, and I’d appreciate your help in clarifying the setup process, especially since the game is a recent release (May 22, 2025). I plan to host the server in a Docker container on a Linux system, similar to how I’ve set up other services with Docker Swarm and Tailscale for networking. Below are my questions to ensure a smooth setup:

Server Files Availability:
Where can I download the dedicated server files for Windward Horizon? For the original Windward, the server executable (WWServer.exe) was available at https://www.tasharen.com/windward/WWServer.zip. Is there a similar download link for Windward Horizon, or are the server files included in the Steam game directory?

If distributed via Steam, is there a specific App ID for the dedicated server, and does it require a Steam account with the game license to access?

Server Executable Details:
Does Windward Horizon use a similar lightweight executable like WWServer.exe, or is it a different binary? If it’s a .exe, is Mono still required for Linux hosts, or is there a native Linux binary?
Are there any specific system requirements (CPU, RAM, disk space) for running the dedicated server, especially in a Docker container?

Configuration Parameters:
What command-line parameters are supported for the Windward Horizon server? For example, the original Windward supported flags like -name, -tcp, -world, and -public. Are these the same, or are there new/updated parameters?

Is there a configuration file (e.g., similar to ServerConfig/admin.txt or ban.txt) for managing admins, bans, or custom sails/pennants? If so, where should these files be placed relative to the server executable?

World and Data Management:
How can I create or import a custom world for the server? For the original Windward, worlds could be created in single-player and copied to the server’s Worlds directory. Does this process still apply, and where should world files be stored?

Are there options to configure world settings (e.g., map size, difficulty, factions) via command-line flags or a configuration file?

Networking and Connectivity:
What is the default port for the Windward Horizon server? The original Windward used TCP 5127. Is this the same, or are additional ports required?

Does the server support Tailscale or similar virtual networks for private hosting behind CG-NAT (e.g., T-Mobile Home Internet)? Any specific networking considerations for Docker-hosted servers?

Are there any firewall or NAT requirements beyond opening the default port?

Docker-Specific Guidance:
Are there any official or recommended Docker images for Windward Horizon servers? If not, are there known compatibility issues with running the server in a Docker container (e.g., with Mono or file permissions)?

Should specific volumes be mounted for persistent data (e.g., world files, configs), and where are these files typically stored by the server?

Updates and Maintenance:
How are server updates handled? Are they released alongside game updates on Steam, or is there a separate update process for the server executable?

If using SteamCMD, is anonymous login supported for downloading server files, or is a licensed Steam account required?

Troubleshooting and Support:
Are there common issues or known bugs with the Windward Horizon dedicated server that I should be aware of?

Is there an official guide or wiki page for the dedicated server setup? The original Windward had a wiki page (http://windward.fandom.com/wiki/Dedicated_Server). Is there an updated version for Windward Horizon?

I’m aiming to host a private server for a small group of friends, with the server running in Docker on a Linux host, potentially using Tailscale for secure remote access. Any additional tips or best practices for optimizing the server setup, especially for co-op play, would be greatly appreciated. If there’s a Discord channel or specific contact for server-related support, please let me know!

Thank you for your time and support. I’m looking forward to sailing the seas of Windward Horizon with my crew!

The dedicated server executable is pinned in discord, and there is a video guide made by maturemindedgamers in the streams and videos channel as well.

WH allows you to create an entirely custom world as far as rules go, from items, to talents, to factions, to stories -- but a guide for this is coming in a few weeks when the dust settles.

Echoing this request. My situation is nearly identical, and the viability of a dedicated server for my friends will be deciding factor on if some of them buy the game.

Thanks for the feedback, gonna request that Aren takes a look at this!
A developer of this app has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

For those of us who use things like AMP or pterodactyl it's not very good having the server files only available through discord. Will it be added to steam at any point for example so we can use the appID in future?

Will singleplayer/game client hosting also get (some) world customization?

Yes, I will also be adding common options when you are starting the world so you can customize your experience easily.
