Hand of Fate
Defeating the dealer?
After several attempts, I finally defeated the dealer and got the achievement. Then the screen went black and there was only the "continue" button to click, after which the game returned to the Start screen... um, is that it? No unlocks, no explanation for why the dealer is still there, nothing?

Yeah kind of wondering the same thing. It took me 2 tries to defeat the dealer and while it was a rush to finally have defeated him I had expected something extra to happen after that. Feels like an anti-climax :(

I prefer that the game doesn't explain who the dealer is or why the player is playing the game with him. The cards represent past memories, but that's pretty much the only thing the game explain.

The ending was kinda disappointing. I thought there was some narrative going on that the person who beats the dealer becomes the dealer.

How on earth did you guys beat the dealer in so few runs? I've played about 15 runs now, only having gotten to the final battle twice. The final battle is just insane... Just seems really really hard!

You doing it on easy, normal or hard? If you find it too difficult you can always change the setting. I thought it was rather easy on hard, but that's just me. Well, at first I thought it was nearly impossible because I didn't know I had to focus the king lizard first, but once I found out he just makes the others invincible it was a piece of cake.

But ehm yes, I didn't expect the game to suddenly be... gone or something after defeating the dealer. However, it would have been nice to get a card for it. Some kind of reward. This was kind of unfulfilling. Didn't really need a narrative or something, just some sort of reward or new unlocks.

I'm playing the GOG release strictly speaking so normal mode until the dlc is released there. Having read some comments, i feel i need more gold giving cards to remove the curses earlier; so far ive been relying on Nymphs of Sweetwoods which i only have had twice (the two runs i reached the dealer and died in combat). Having watched a video guide, i noticed blood crescent does a great job dealing with the rat king and lizard king so i may need to unlock this before i attempt another dealer run.

WhiskeredWolf the Blood Crescent is unlocked by beating the King of Scales so you already have it

Ah, Have not seen it in about 15 runs, that must be pretty crap luck.

Well, you probably have it, but you also need to put it in your deck when unlocked. Perhaps you haven't. That would be why you haven't gotten it. I think I did it with blood crescent as well, as it's pretty much my favorite weapon. It however isn't a good item against the dealer, because what it does is easily kill normal minions. You can instantly kill bosses with it with its active, but this takes up quite a bit of health and the rewind time artifact (where you restore your health to the amount you had at the beginning) doesn't work, because you can't just use it and return to your starting amount of hp. The health it took to kill a boss will be gone.

A good weapon would be the skeleton sword I guess, as it restores some health, and that powerful mace you get from giving the ore to that monk (yes, it's very vague, but I don't know the names. It has 40 base power and is the strongest in game weapon, damage wise)

Well, all weapons work I guess. Just try to get some health and that artifact that restores it and you'll have plenty of health.

Also, don't forget you'll have a shop right in front of the dealer. Just reuse that, as you wont need food anymore. Buy everything you need there and you'll be fine. Especially if you do it on a low difficulty

Nope, you are wrong. WhiskeredWolf plays GOG release, and prepatch version of Time Heals does restore health lost by Blood Crescent active ability.

Also Skeleton King sword is actually one of the bad weapons.
Wolf you should try Thunderstrike. This mace is amazing.

I have no idea what gog release means but okay, i it works, then you should definitely get blood crescent. Thunderstrike is nice too, but crescent is better

Is anyone else having problems with the Dealer in actual combat?

I've tried multiple times to beat it. I have no problem getting there or beating the bosses, but during the fireball sequence in almost every fight it wont register the QTE properly, resulting in it looping the ''jump to avoid'' and not reflect the fireball.

It's very annoying as I want that stupid dealer dead ¬¬

GOG is a DRM Free only gaming platform on PC. Unfortunately the Devs being a smaller team cannot update all versions at the same time so we are still stuck on 1.0.3 over there.

In response to the above questions; I did have it my deck so 15 runs without the blood crescent must have been poor luck. I tried a strategy of only having the blood crescent in my deck then trying to get a weapon card (such as twisted canyon) worked well but i died on the Lich that run! Its tricky, I am not the best and still need some more practice to get perfect at the combat so perhaps I'll just grind out some more tokens in the mean time.

@LeyShade Have heard many people having this issue, try spamming the reflect button (there's no penalty) that's what worked every time for me.

I have a pretty solid hypothesis on who The Dealer is on some of the things he have said and how he says it. I haven't beat him but the ending as you say gives it some credit.

I also have a problem with the QTE.
