Also, when I was fighting with the weapon that steals life I was on the KOS level (for sure) fighting just 4 lizzies with shields in a random encounter (arena was small, no traps, looked like a floating steel platform with a circle in each corner), hitting the weapon ability did not grant me health (yes the lizzies were in range and no, I did not have full HP and no I did not have a curse that would prevent this from happeneing, dont even know if there such a curse in game), I must have hit those lizzies at least a 50 times(each, more or less) but they just would not die. When they were knocked on the ground they would avoid the 3rd strike. (killing blow?)
I am a software developer, I think I have provided as much info as I can for you to test. If you need any more details let me know and I will try to recall. Oh yes, the weapon was working in the previous encounter so I dont think its the weapons fault. But I suppose you guys know what all to test.
Second: On one hand, I don't see the encounter text for that one - went back to it several times to try to find it, even. (is it skippable somehow? Am I missing it? Am I blind?) On the other, you're exactly right with that being the problem. Knowing that let me beat it immediately and reduced my frustration with the game by about 40%. Literacy must be my true enemy.
Sorry for the trouble that I may have caused you guys :(
Best bet is to get a 30 combo with only shield bashes to avoid losing the combo on their shields. Though i've noticed you don't get combo bonuses (slo-mo/damage) from shield bashes.
Welcome.
I didn't check the in-game text to ensure it says that you need 30 hits when you accept. I just went off of the wiki:
http://handoffate.gamepedia.com/Trial_by_Combat
which might not be up to date, so it could be that the in game text doesn't mention the 30 hit combo anymore.
