Hand of Fate

Weapon Selection am I missing something?
I've had this game a while but only just started playing it. I am rather confused by the weapon selection method I started a new game level with a large selection of unlocked weapons as part of my playing hand they ranged from just adequate to powerful.
However, I did't start with any of my best weapons in the first battle, far from it.
Am I missing some way of selecting the specific weapon cards that I want to use from my hand and changing them between levels or are they always selected randomly from my chosen hand by the game?
It's not a game breaker for me I'm really enjoying playing but, it just seems logical that if I've fought and won a high ranking weapon that I should be able to use that weapon and it's special qualities if I want and when I want and carry on using it in the next level
If I get killed and certain advanced weapons are removed from my hand, that is fine as part of the game progression process and it is logical that I am being penalised for failing but, starting a new level with a big mace and a fancy shield in my cards and finding that in my first battle I have an axe and a basic shield is frustrating.

For each run (and each attempt to defeat a boss is a seperate run) you build a deck of encounters and equipment. Those arent't the items you start with, they're the items you CAN draw in that run. They become the decks that things are drawn from as you play.

In that sense, it's a little like a roguelike where you're the one selecting what goes into the RNG.

Thank you for the information which does now make sense to me that in my choice of hand I'm actually selecting options which may or may not become available during play.
As someone whose gaming started in their 30's with the release of Pong and has continued for nearly 40 years, these days I do sometimes struggle with modern game concepts and playstyles I think this is a really great game in concept and play and will eventually be getting Hand of Fate 2 congratulations.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Hand of Fate. The mechanics are extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical gaming most of the concepts will go over a typical gamer's head.

and so on...
