Hand of Fate
Is there any way to mod combat out?
I'm going to be real honest.

I don't like the action combat in this game. I think that it hurts the board game aesthetic this game is going for and they shouldn't have put it in, in the first place. I think a system built more on dice rolls would have been better, a la DnD or something similar.

I think that by far, combat is the weakest part about this game.

So, is there any way to mod it out?

I can deal with it, but I'd rather just be rid of it.

I hope the sequel doesn't have it, tbh.

I kind of like the combat, but my main issue with it is that the camera is janky and I dislike how it's occasionally unresponsive. It's too easy to overcommit to attacks and there isn't any way to cancel a lot of your strikes. That's fine a deliberate paced game like Dark Souls but not as much for a fast-paced one. Knowing a full second that you're screwed and unable to do anything about it feels really bad. You also occasionally wind up in a no-win situation where two enemies are attacking at once and you can't avoid damage from one of them. In the latter case sometimes the only option is to sacrifice your combo multiplier and roll away completely until the enemies aren't as bunched up, which also doesn't feel good.

I hope that's useful feedback to the developers! If they fixed that one thing, I'd be okay with the combat even in the sequel. Hand of Fate's unique combination of combat and boardgame is pretty distinctive, even with this one's faults. I definitely get whey're coming from though, OP.

That is so infuriating, yes.

We're aware of the shortcomings of the combat in HoF1, but as the game is feature-locked there's not much solace I can offer you, unfortunately.

But we are addressing the issues that have been raised here, particularly the unhelpful camera and the unresponsive attacks. Combat is a lot more fluid and engaging in the sequel, and there are many more opportunities for players to do interesting things in a fight. It has gone from something that I, like you, simply endured in the first game to something I now enjoy very much.

I'll hold you to that.

I'm quite excited for the sequel, tbh.

I can't WAIT to see! =D

For the record, I do actually like HoF1's combat. A more readily responsive version is absolutely awesome to know is coming, as someone who loves Arkham/Mordor style combat more generally. I also love that apparently you can have a female protagonist too, as I tend to enjoy playing girls more. I was deffy hype for HoF2 before but now I'm seriously so.
