[Spoilers] Ending Theory Discussion
So I just finished the game, the ending is kind of open to interpretation.
What did everyone else think?

I have a theory that the dealer wanted to lose so that he could be released from his duty as dealer.

From alot of the lines throughout the game, I get the impression that the dealer is immortal, and it seems like the only way he can die is to be beaten at his own game. Many different stories about immortality often find the immortal wishing that they could die, whether out of loneliness, boredome, weariness, or whatever reason.

So my theory goes that the dealer was once a player like us, and defeated the dealer before him. But in defeating the dealer, he became the new dealer. Cursed, he was bound to the deck. He cannot die, and he cannot destroy or rid himself of the deck.

One line from the dealer that supports this is:
"You continue to die, yet we reset the board each time. One must wonder how it is possible to truly lose?"

And the answer is, one loses by defeating the dealer. Because then you inherit the curse.

This is a fun theory! The Dealer does seem to be as much a victim of the Game of Life and Death as the protagonist is. I doubt there's much to do beyond the 13 gates at the end of the world. He probably gets terrible phone reception.
