Assistance with emulator connections required
Alright, so I am rather new to AArcade, I just started seemingly not even an hour ago as of typing this, and I have tried to attempt linking to an emulator I have on my computer, though I decided to halt myself before going any further to ask a question just to be safe. I wanted to do a quick test by linking an arcade cabinet of Donkey Kong 64, since I have an emulation of it, so my first instinct was to link to Project64, an N64 emulator, but I was uncertain if it would just link to the emulator itself when starting the game, or if it would instantly link to Donkey Kong. I know I can't link it to Donkey Kong 64 itself since it is not an exe, so if possible, how can I link directly to that game without opening up the emulators menu and such?

select the rom itself...not the emu program...the built in apps will automatically load up the emu and then load the rom..

I recently discovered the built in "profiles" for emulators and tried that out not too long ago, and it did nto open the file since it could not pinpoint an application for it. Appologies if I am bothering you.

Hi Officer Spencer. Yes, the in-game profiles are what you want. I'll explain how to configure them, its pretty easy!

1. Go to the Collect Rewards menu and make sure the profile for your emulator is activated.
2. Spawn a shortcut to your ROM file.
3. Make sure that the item's OpenWith value is set to your emulator, and that its Type is set to n64.
4. Click the PLAY button on your cabinet.
5. CAREFULLY read the instructions on-screen and tell it what it asks for. Depending on your setup, it might ask you to click the Browse button and locate the following things: the exe for your emulator, the path to your ROM folder, the location of your ROM file (if it can't find it).

After you've setup your emulator profile like this, it will all be automatic. You just spawn your ROM file, make sure it is set to OpenWith your emulator, and you'll be ready to play.

Alright, I'm affraid I may not be understanding something here. I have set the default program to open the rom to Project64 1.6, though I don't understand what you mean by set it's type. I'll asume that is the most important part since the exe opens but it fails to instantly launch the game and instead gives me an error message.

Is Project64 v1.6 the emulator you use? Because it uses different launch parameters than 2.1 or other versions.

It sounds as if you're launching a different version of Project64, but using the v1.6 profile.

Well, I could only assume that is the correct version since that is what the exe says upon it as well as the launched application where it asks me to pick which game I would like to play. What the main issue could be however I have no clue what it could be aside from error on my part, and even then I do not know what my error would be.

FYI, version 1.6 of Project 64 is a very old version. I think 2.1 has been out for nearly a year now. But if you are sure that you are using the old version 1.6, I'll continue trying to troubleshoot using that assumption.

What you should try to do is follow my instructions using a new ROM that you haven't tried to add to Anarchy Arcade yet. This is important, because AArcade saves the settings you put for shortcuts, so if you accidently put wrong info for one of your ROM files, it will have that wrong info every time you spawn that file. You can go to that shortcut's EDIT ITEM menu to fix it, but it is easiest to just try a different file until you learn what's going on.

FYI, the reason you did not get the screen that asks you for the file's type is because you were spawning a file that you had already imported into your library, so it didn't need to ask what type it was a 2nd time.

If for some reason it STILL doesn't work for you, there is a log file we can look at that will show what is going wrong. Let me know if this fails and I'll give you the instructions on how to open the log file.

I did not know I had ann outdated version of Project64, I assumed I had the the most recent version of the emulator. Then again, I did get it a bit over a year ago so it's safe to assume it was the most recent version at the time now that I think about it. Though since I prefer having the most up to date softwares I decided to uninstall v1.6 and I have installed v2.1 as well as my old and some new roms to try this out. Right now the only issue I am having is I cannot seem to set Project64 v2.1 as a default .z64 file opener like I was able to with v2.1. Every time I select it from the browse menu it closes the browse menu and returns to the "open with" selection, but Project64 just does not appear on the list. I cannot seem to select it to open anything, though this is definitely an issue on my part so I will try to fix this and then follow the steps you gave me, hopefully this will work out.

Any version of Project64 other than 1.6 will just show up as Project64, without a version number listed. This is because only 1.6 requires different launch options.

If Project64 does not appear in your OpenWith drop-down menu, it usually means that you still have to activate the emulator profile in your Collect Rewards menu.

If you're sure that you have both Project64 v1.6 and Project64 profiles activated on the Collect Rewards menu, then it could be incorrect profile settings that are preventing the one you're looking for from showing up on the list.

Even if you can only set your shortcut to OpenWith the wrong Project64 profile, we can modify that profile to work with the newest version of Project64 instead. If you can't get the other Project64 profile to show up, just let me know if you need instructions on how to modify the 1.6 profile to work with 2.1.
