Killing Zombies

Is there another way to kill zombies in the forest (aside from the veggie throwing), it sure would be nice to use say... my axe.

Not at this time. The way I see it, in the forest the point isn't to kill zombies, but to stay away from them. Being able to kill them would make the forest too easy.

Notice the light around you. That light shows you where the zombies are. So move slowly, don't run a long distance. I move into the center of my light and wait a few seconds to see if any new zombies show up. I repeat this until I get to where I'm going.

If I come to a place where zombies are blocking the way, I slowly pull them to a larger area where I can run around them and get through the tight areas.

It's all about strategy. Take your time, plan your moves ... they won't get you. :)
