GameGuru Classic

GameGuru Classic

Runtime error 501 - image number 96001
This error happens, when i ethier press the load game button on the menu or after i have clicked the specific file to load up. Doesnt happen 100% of the time. 1 out of 10 times it works ok.

Only happens when running at 1280x720 it seems, not tested all resolutions properly just yet, 1920x1080 seems perfectly fine however.

I have tested on multple pc's. All of which have the newest graphic drivers. Originally i thought it could be the image associated with that resolution, so i checked, then replaced. And retested. Still happens.

Just to keep this updated... I have not been able to solve this problem... Even with a fresh install of windows....

I did however send the test game i created to a group of online friends. Who said it was running fine for them also.... just my luck.

I dont feel i should waste anymore of your time, as clearly theres not a problem with gameguru......im just missing something with the pc's i have tested on, which is down to me to solve, not you.

Thanks for taking your time to look into this. When i find the cause i will post for future reference.

However ... If thats the only issue you face and you know your standalones work fine for others then at least it wont prevent you creating ?

Indeed, i suppose i can ignore this slight problem really as it doesnt effect anyone else.

Though, in terms of creating with the intention of commercial use. I am still waiting for steam overlay support :) ....... though i am testing out other idea's . As the overlay issue is only caused by adding weapons. But, ill stop there. Thats a totally different thing.
I know you are still having this issue from another thread you have posted in, so i have a quick question.

When you edited/created the games, where was the map file saved before creatung the standalone? Was it in the default GameGuru/Files/mapbank ?

The reason i ask is because i have found that if the source map file is not in the mapbank and you create a standalone from it, the standalone created gets random run-time errors.
I always save files in the mapbank. I did the testing with the default gameguru maps and never moved or edited them.
I'm stumped then. I've made hundreds of standalone's, tested hundreds of others for other people, using multiple machines with everything from XP to Win10 on, and haven't come across this issues, except when I've created a standalone from outside the mapbank, or when there is actually an incorrectly named, or missing image.

Hmn, something else to try quickly, in your standalone files folder, delete your titlesbank, then copy your titlesbank from the gameguru files folder into the place it was in your standalone files folder and see if it still errors. i'm wondering if it could be something to do with the standalone encryption, and having an unencrypted version of the titlesbank in there might fix it.

@Belidos
It wont matter ... He downloaded my game and the same happens.
Basically no matter what GG games he tries ( built on his or not ) he gets the same results ...

Sorry it has to be machine related whether its an app conflicting that you have on all 5 of your test machines i have no idea.

Basically what i mean is ( for example ) if Belidos and myself brought our PC's to your house and could show you it wasnt happening to us on our PC's ... Then it could only possibly be an issue with yours.

Verifying, reinstalling GG etc wont help in this situation if it happens to you with other GG standalone games. .. However updating Windows, Graphic Drivers etc might help..

Um, I just tried out the Protoscope demo.
Did the first puzzle, saved it, went to the main menu and clicked on the About button a few times, then loaded the saved game.
Started playing the second puzzle and bam, Runtime Error 501 : Image Number 96008 (loading_main)
@synchromesh, I'll send you a screen shot on discord.
I really do hope theres a solution. Having had this problem ages.

It's so random, 1 moment, click loads of times. No problem, suddenly, first button i click errors, restart and instantly get another run time error.

@ Amen

Aha !!
What resolution were you using as a matter of interest.
would it have been 1280x720 ?

Still cannot get it but ... Even it your resolution :(
just had an idea but only a theory ... In windows can you check your text scaling is set to 100% ... If not give that a try
