Working with .X animations?
I'm having a hard time finding a working method of modifying some of the animations in various HUD.x files. I have yet to find any software capable of importing any GG models with animation, or exporting any animation in the .x format. Converting the GG HUD.x files to Collada with open3dmod, then importing into blender gets a skeleton, but no animation AND blender doesn't export .x animations. open3mod is crashing when i try to convert a Collada to .X. 3d Crafter isn't importing many of the GG HUD/x files, it says they are invalid.
I doubt anyone using GG is interested in paying $1400/year for 3ds max, so what are people using to make custom characters and animations?
Is that really the only software that works? Is there an easier way? On a GG budget?

blender can export as a x file.
In the settings check mark the im and export checkbox for x files
and you also can use fragmotion.in fragmotion you can open the x files, and export it as fbx.
That should work in blender.

Blender does work fine for exporting static models to .x forma - but it's loosing all the bones and animation. You can look at the exported .x file from Blender in a text editor and see that it doesn't export any animation data. I havn't been able to export the animations I made in blender into anthing other than Collada. Importing/exporting .x with Blender = misnamed/misplaced bones and no animation.
I dont care about Blender, but it does seem to work well and I got started on some animations using it ,but getting them into the .x format is what I need. I'm wasting too much time messing with different formats and programs. I'll look at fragmotion, but even if it has a trial, many wont let you test the export feature :( Have you used it with GG?

Fragmotion free trial will export the animated x file just fine, many of the older models were made in programs that could not export animated x files and converted with Fragmotion. Use FBX out of blender and import it into fragmotion and export it to direct x file with skinning and animation.

Ultamate unwrap is another one.

Fragmotion works fine, just as myke says.
Almost All my animals i made are exported in fragmotion.;-)

Thanks very much guys! Fragmotion has got me moving forward again. I've got a bit of reading to do, but my initial tests with Fragmotion worked.
Cheers!

.x, as in the outdated, obsolete file format that even it's creators (Microsoft) has abandoned? I keep hoping for a more standard and stable file format import such as DAE or FBX. Until then, this app is a huge no-go for me...

On the Voting board "Support for other 3D formats" is around number 30 so although a little way off at some point it will get there .... For a better effect anyone that wants it faster you need to put that slider right to the top and give it your full votes..

There is a good possibility that the work I am currently doing to port GameGuru to DirectX 11 will automagically yield support for more formats, including Collada which is a very popular export format from most modellers. Once I am sure these extra formats work in all weathers, I will announce a full list on my dev blog when the time comes (and of course on here when we release the next major performance update).

There's one unofficial open source fangame named Sonic World. I don't know I have no idea in which game engine was it made maybe it was Blitz or maybe it was DirectXSDK),but I want to know to properly extract 3D animations of Tiara the Manx(owned by Sonic Team and Sega)(modelled and animated by Nibroc-Rock I tried asking him,but he didn't respond to me).
