It is ... kind of ... It's not as easy to control as Simcopter(more simulation like), and you're not in a big City but on an Island. If you want to extinguish fire you have to grab the equipment first. For that reason one mission takes longer to accomplish. And these Missions are the main difference in my oppinion. You don't fly around and things happen. There are missions to do certain things like "there's a fire, evacuate the area, extinguish the fire". After you have done that, you have to fly back to your base and you can start another one, when ever you want to. If you just want to fly, there's the free flight mode. But all in all it is close to what simcopter was.

However the Controller support and overall controller adjustments should be improved. I can use my T flight Hotas X, but I can only use 50% of the Throttlelever. That is because the game just uses one direction of an axle as Throttle. Another issue is, that it seems like you can not unbind a function from a key. You have to replace it. This means, that I cannot unbind the "restart mission" function from my Joystick buttons. But I don't want any button on my Joystick to restart the mission. For a game like this, this HAS TO BE improved ! Controls is most important on a flight simulating game imho.

Shame if only this was more simcopter like I really want to play it again but GOG isn't getting it anytime soon and VM is a hassle to set up. Devs read this I would pay for a simcopter type game done right.

Yep, I've been looking for a new Simcopter, too. :/
That game had some special addictive charm about it. Search and Rescue doesn't do the same to me. But still ... it is some fun for the money.

I miss throwing people out of my copter. The best part was that your could port your city form Sim City 2000 and fly around them.

I just had to chime in here.

Sim Copter was one of my favorite PC games of all time. I would give my left arm if Steam had a compatible port.

That being said, do any of you happen to know if there are any other games on Steam that are as close to Sim Copter as possible?
Bone Dragon Mar 1, 2014 @ 4:36pm
Yeah, I too am reminded of Sim Copter. I pored so many hours into that game. Still have the CD copy of the game, only I haven't managed to get it to work on my computer as it forces you to have Windows 95 :P. Apparently a windows 95 emulator can be used, but it looks like a pain. I am rather hoping gog.com or someone releases a compatible version.

This game does have simularities. However, Sim Copter was even more arcade like than this and a ton more ridiculous. (since it took place in the Sim City universe) Even still, Helicopter Simulator is worth while to fill the void of pseudo-realistic helicopter action like Sim Copter, till (I hope) a successor to Sim Copter ever materializes.

If this is even close to Sim Copter I will buy it. Man that game was fun. I have no idea why b/c the graphics for the civies were terrible but they were pretty funny to watch. I remember having massive riots in my cities that would wreak havoc and start fires everywhere. Good times. I would play SimCopter on Steam if they had it. It was also compatible with the good versions of SimCity so you could fly around your own cities. Fun times.

I think the view distance in SimCopter was like a mile or so and after that it was pure white. But no one cared b/c the game was so fun.

Would be nice if we could get a petition going for a Steam release of Sim Copter. :-)

Aye, these stupid faces of your passengers, the overall rediculousness and the arcade speed of simcopter was great. The game didn't take itself serious. Also I think the open world in which you had some freedom to choose what you do next, and how you solve a problem made it so much fun. The improvments via new better faster helicopters with more capacity for passengers and so on were good for feeling a progress.

All of that is missing in "Search and Rescue"
It takes itself too serious without being serious enough to be an accurate simulator. It is somwhere in between. Maybe it would be a good idea to add another mode like free flight but with random events that can happen. A career mode, where you make progress, earn money, and buy equipment and better helicopters.

I appreciate the idea of making a helicopter rescue game, but they could have made more out of it.

I miss the radio stations with the goofy ads. Now, radio in games is common but back then, it might have been the first of it's kind. The anti-riot messages were cool too.

God yes, I LOVED those! I used to use the "custom" channel to upload fake commercials of my own that me and a friend recorded ourselves, while including our own music tracks. It was such a blast.

Yes eat your heart out GTA commercials. Sim Copter had the idea first way back when. Lots of fun. I loved the riot announcements as well. Ok people you are making me feel old and nostalgic.
