Heat Death: Survival Train

Feedback after playing the demo
First off, I have been seriously craving a decent survival game where you build and upgrade a home base train to move through the game. So I was very excited to see this game in progress!

Overall, the demo was pretty fun, but I do have some suggestions:

1) Pain point - waiting for storms to end. Have a way to pass time, like take a nap for an hour and recover some stamina & health, or have something else to do while waiting. I shouldn't be picking up my phone to scroll Reddit.

2) Pain point - waiting for batteries to charge. The charger stations look like they should hold more than 1 battery. Have them charge up to 3 at a time to speed things up. Have a button to "wait until fully charged" so I don't have to stand around waiting to charge up all my batteries. Again, I shouldn't be picking up my phone to scroll Reddit.

3) Walking and sprinting are far too slow.

4) I built a second level on my 1st train car, partially covered and partially uncovered with a weapon mounted in the uncovered area. So while standing on 1st floor, the ceiling was made up of all floor tiles. I tried putting ceiling tiles on the outdoor part but I couldn't place the weapon there. I noticed after I did this that I was cold during storms - not sure if I misunderstood the building mechanics.

Suppose the dynamo charger could be re-purposed to be a battery charger, with the option to charge several at one time? (upgrade-able with larger battery types?) as spinning that wheel to get a tiny charge to try to keep your train going forward a few seconds longer really isn't that fun.

How did you get any charge to the train?
I was able to get up to 11 per wind but nothing went to the trains battery.
I don't know if it adds up to 11 or if you add the 1, 3, 5, 7 and 11 that it shows together but either way after doing a few of those my battery was at 30 which is only natural recharge rate with the engine running.
Pointless.

You don't need the dynamo, the train charges itself up. But the dynamo would be needed if you sit in nowhere and a storm hits you.

I hit 50 something a couple of times, it's a mini game and you have to be quick and tidy.

I've been able to get to 78 several times, and once I got to 86 (I think, might have been 85). I'm usually around 40, with the occasional 3. :-D It definitely goes to the train. I was able to go backwards from the end of the demo to the town with two drones and still had 200 energy when I got there, just by using the dynamo the entire time.

During storms i make energy drinks or charge my batteries and use the fab's to make stuff but i would like to be able to sit down and slowly regenerate stamina. For a first demo build i liked it and storms feel like an early game thing i am hoping for more bad weather.

i can add to this that your tile placement needs work.. if i'm placing a roof / floor tile it should snap to either the nearest wall, or to other tiles on the same plain. getting roof tiles / 2nd floor tiles down is far too agrivating.. .. and there should be enough materiels in the first tutorial area to actually build the most basic train needed.. if that's a 1x2 room with a glass front 2, two glass corners (2) two walls (6) and a door (2+1), then you need to have all that material either be present, or be salvagable within the tutorial area.. rather than having to wait an inordinate amount of time to gather, and then have to wait even longer because you need to recharge your suit battery every 2 items built...

So far I am loving the game. The play is interesting with the walk speed varying between tracks, snow, and stone. More realistic feel in that sense. I do wish the battery charger was either faster or could charge two at a time. Even sitting out a storm, this can become boring fast. Storms are a bit longer than I like, but that's just me. Might appreciate them more later. I do understand, but not crazy about the level placement for power and guns (protection). Might consider making the tunnels a little higher to compensate or make the pieces sit on a moveable (up and down) platform. Then could manually lower for tunnels. Have been discovering that there are places I missed and so will be setting up a new train for the next go round, and hopefully won't miss anything this time. Hope the release date will be soon, as would love to move along to the next "station".

Just wondering if there is a weather forecast function in this game. It's a bummer getting caught out in a storm.

At the stations is a screen for weather forecast.

The issue I am having is that the storms are to frequent. I mean 15 mins between storms is not normal. You don't have any time to explore the outside before being caught in a storm then die because you are not able to get back inside. If there has to be that many storms then why not have them 30-40 mins apart. Give players a chance to explore the world.

drones need to keep getting a little stronger with our weapons also upgrading as we find certain things that will upgrade weapons. Also the game needs to focus on more exploring the map than just a few building and caves. which means the storms should not be every 15 minutes, maybe 20 minutes and when going into caves they should be shelter from storms just as they would be in real life. would be nice to also have a hud or mini map in the corner of the screen to show where you are on the map. walking is to slow for sure, even running is to slow. make the drone homes exploitable to go inside and find parts. chest needs to hold at least 40 items 20 is way to few. our trains are full of storage chest, a way around that would be having shops in the stations we can trade and sell to get upgrades. give us a timer ticking down on hud to next storm or on the screen, so we can be finding shelter. This game can be a great survival game if you keep developing new content and listening to our ideas. some ideas are good some will just hurt the game. Nothing wrong with the battery charging system they work fine. But the solar things should charge the train fasted hen you park n the sun. i do not see a need for the reactor to put out radiation when you put in fusion fuel, i have to run to front of train to get away from it and that's just crazy. give us more use of the fusion waste other than just bullets. most of all please start giving us updates in the news feeds on when to expect a update, so aggravating logging in daily to see no news or updates. Talk to us so we keep our hopes alive. even if its giving us a update to back track to find more stuff in the past stations that only spawns after you reach the Dome, to keep us busy till next update
Just played the demo and I love the overall game concept, but one thing that absolutely irks me out is deterioration. Why everything is is deterring so quickly? I can barely charge up my train before the dynamo breaks. And the reactor? It's not only consumes fuel, but also requires constant repair. That's so annoying! Not to mention it's a huge resource sinkhole. I'd prefer to spend these resources on building my train rather than fixing everything again and again.

So please, please remove the deterioration from the game! Or make it much slower. Or make a setting in the game options to let players decide if they want to play with deterioration or not.

all that stuff is manageable if you play smart and use the things you find the best way as the game is designed. like power core you find some in the game which is the main thing you need to make the solar charging plates. or to make extra Battery Banks. and there is a hand crank charger you can build. you just got to learn which you need most and which you can do without and build later. I run 2 train motors, 2 battery banks, 2 solar charging things and the fusion reactor. but i never use my reactor because my batteries charge back when i park in the sun with mt solar charger. and if i get caught in a storm and they run down i pop in 1 fusion fuel cell which charges everything back full. i only run my train in 1st speed and this also does not deplete my power fast. The game gives you what you need to survive, but bad choices will make you fail. Smart Choices is the key to survival. another good hint is don't build and waste your stuff you need for other items on stuff you can use in stations free to create materials you need. like the body scan, etc
