But really what i want in to not pick the "bad" classes like the game says gray mages suck late game i would reather have a class that sucks at the start but rocks in the end game.
Knight is your standard tank class and is fairly powerful.
Monk is weak in the beginning, but becomes immune to status effects and become the most powerful character end game.
White mages are super healers and buffers and can do massive damage to undead, but not much else.
Black mages are amazing enemy group destroyers, I love em. Also the best endgame combo buff with Godlike on the monk.
Thiefs are slightly interesting but weak, but they can steal duplicates of the best equipment in the end-game.
Grey Mage is interesting but very weak, a bad hybrid class.
Hunter is nice and can be used to replace the Knight, plus you can travel without getting into encounters, but then you can't use swords.
Engineer is the most interesting class and can be a white mage/black mage into one if you grind for money and fish a lot.
I'll list the pros and cons of the first party
Pros
amazing late game damage with monk
steal bombs and end game equips with thief
get money to fuel fishing/synthesis with thief
engineer becomes a better healer than white mage if you level fishing a little
grey mage makes a good tank while still being able to heal and help with damage
cons
monk can die really quickly due to lack of defense
requires a bit more thought and resource planning as engineer is reliant on items for quite a while
grey mage doesn't excel at damage or healing
once all of the useful items have been stolen, thief becomes nearly useless
lack access to white mage buffs (but items help mitigate this)
For an actual achievement gathering first playthrough, I'd have to say Monk, Thief, Hunter, Engineer. Just make sure you're set to save anywhere, otherwise swap Engineer out for a White Mage, or the lack of resurrect ability until master rod will probably drive you spare. Build the Hunter heavily on ATK and it's a decent beatstick, aside from utility and building your beastiary, and heavy armor means it's not so squishy. Also moas means putting encounters on grind is less of an annoyance.
Does leave the other party if you want to get cheevos with 2 playthroughs as hunter/monk/white/gray though, which isn't great.
e: on non-legendary difficulties taunt isn't required but it's still very helpful, on hard you could do something simple like monk or knight/thief/WM/BM or engi over one of the mages
