Fishing Guide [WIP]
Here is a guide I'm working on. It's not finished yet, but I figured I would post it here so people could benefit from it. I still need to finish the game, heh. But it has general advice for what bait is optimal for profit and for catching each fish that you need. I haven't completed higher than Luring Rod yet, but this should come in handy for beginners for the time being. It's just a bunch of math with information gathered from the official guide.

I also might add a section for Saltwater and Freshwater fishing, but it's relatively straightforward (and generally not the best for profit).

Fishing results are deduced from the average expectancy of 100 casts, based on in-game given percentages. Summary - to max profits: Old Fishing Pole | Junk Bait | 2050 per 100 casts Thin Fishing Pole | Worm Bait | 20000 per 100 casts Strong Fishing Pole | Worm Bait | 96250 per 100 casts Deluxe Rod | Super Bait | 335000 per 100 casts Luring Rod | Super Bait | 1200000 per 100 casts In order to catch the fish required for each rod upgrade and minimize cost, use this list. Note that some of these combinations might normally result in a loss, but are the most cost effective way to get the fish you need. If you get the highest level fish and still need the older ones in order to craft, it's advisible to switch to cheaper bait (Desired Fishing Rod) | (Use this combination) Thin Fishing Pole | Old Fishing Pole + HQ Veggie Bait Strong Fishing Pole | Thin Fishing Pole + Magic Bait Deluxe Rod | Strong Fishing Pole + Super Bait Luring Rod | Deluxe Rod + Super Bait Master Rod | Luring Rod + Super Bait Detailed Report: ---------------------------- Old Fishing Pole + Junk Bait Gold Fish x 50 x 25 = + 1250 Anchovy x 25 x 37 = + 925 Catfish x 10 x 50 = + 500 Albacore x 5 x 75 = + 375 Bait Cost x 100 x 10 = - Hey this is awesome. I haven't delved into fishing much so this is really helpful.

Nice. I would actually say there isn't much point to checking profit from the Master Rod considering how much work getting the bait is. Luring Rod is definitely more profitable as far as time spent goes.

That's what I'm beginning to comprehend. Still, it might be helpful to get some numbers. I still have a lot more research to do. I was hoping to make a thorough, more complete guide, but I started with the most useful stuff for any beginning. Hopefully it'll show up if somebody googles "last dream fishing guide" haha. I know I tried that at first.

Master Rod items are definitely not cost-effective for what you have to do to obtain them.

Threshers are fairly common with the Luring Rod, and they sell for 25K. Much easier to catch than the Blue Whale, which require the annoying bait and are only worth 75K. Even the Giant Squid is only worth four Thresher Sharks. The resurrection/buff Master Rod fish are even worse, only three of them sell for more than 25K. Leviathans sell for x10 a Thresher, but there is only a 5% chance to catch them, and in that time you can easily get ten or more Threshers.

The only thing that makes the Master Rod worth it is running The Abyss, since you get 99 Perfect Bait in one of the green chests.

I figure the master rod is best used for actually benefit from the healing items rather than profit, anyway.

This has been super useful, and even incomplete, It'd make a great guide. I acknowledge that it's not complete; but it is really helpful. Only things it's short are the last rod, and ice and freshwater fishing.

If you run an engineer then saw shark is the most effective healing item in the game as it acts as a megaelixir. You mainly run the master rod after that for the absolutly astounding freshwater and salt water fish you can catch. (being that I had no revive options until then as I chose to forego a white mage)

Getting the bait is a one time thing after you syth it once you can buy it freely from the master fisherman as much as you wish.

He was referring to back when you had craft each piece of bait yourself. *Shudders.*

Oh. That part was a bit easy for me because once I got the airship I went to the WoS to check it out so I had most of the rare ingrediants just from going there

Though I do hate maluspiro tentacles and dragon horns with the passion of a thousand suns.

There's no need for me to complete it. When the new patch came out with fishing adjustments, and the new guide was released, it became obsolete, since all the info is available there. I do have the satisfaction of knowing the layout of their guide was inspired by mine, though :)

I know this post was from a long time ago, but I just recently started playing Last Dream. Im curious how you added up all these profit calculations from fishing. I've been fishing with a strong fishing pole using worm bait for a while now, and my max profit I've gotten out of two stacks of worm bait has averaged around 50,000 instead of your 96,250 that you have shown here. Is there better places to fish? Does different locations give you better fish? (I'm still on the first continent by the way)

This guide has still been super useful too me though. I really appreciate the time you put into putting this guide together.
