Most classes have mostly the same build. Grey Mage you decide if you want to go Int route or Attack route.
Physical - HP ATK DEF MGD . Some accuracy if you are missing enemies.
Knight - MP is not too important, but still needed for some good skills like the taunt line.
Monk Level accuracy more, as every 50 points you get 1 extra attack with Fists of Fury. He can't wear equipment but ability scores take less AP than other classes so you can put tons of points into stats. Maxing crit at 100 is very good.
Thief Level agility as long as it is cheap, but don't go overboard. It helps stealing and running away.
Hunter - Agility is good as long as it's cheap, but it's less useful than on a thief. If you're getting ambushed a lot by enemies increase agility on thief or hunter.
Gray Mage Physical - same as Knight, but focus a bit more on MP.
Magical - HP INT MP MGD DEF
White Mage - Raise preemption so the white mage goes first before other party members. Equipment raising PRE can also be used. This lets you cast buffs and heal before any party members go, which can be useful.
Black Mage - Raise preemption so the black mage goes before enemies, when the mage casts first and one shots them, congrats, you've beat Last Dream. Critical is very expensive but important, however +30 crit ring does exist.
Gray Mage Magical- same as Black Mage.
Engineer - When using engineer as a caster, treat them as the black mage.
Special build: Engineer item thrower. HP DEF MGD Crit
When you specialize the engineer as only using bombs and fish, you don't need to raise INT at all and barely want to raise MP. This lets you focus on defensive stats and crit, which affects items. Some of the best speed runs use engineers in this way, as on legendary bombs will do the same damage with no stat points in attack, letting you focus on defense.
How to read: These tell you how many points to put into each stat per level up. So STR 2 means that at level 21(20 level ups), you should have increased STR 40 times. If it had been STR 1/2, then you'd only have increased it 10 times. Easy peasy.
Note: You'll have enough points for some of these immediately, but some builds will be more than you can afford for a while. Just do your best. Eventually, the increase in per-level build points will surpass the cost of individual attributes(even with their occasional increase in cost), and you should end up with a surplus.
Without further ado, the builds I have!
Knight: This build was called the Hexblade. Without the guide present, I assume this is because it raises your MP each level so your knight can make liberal use of its special abilities.
HP 3, MP 1, ATK 1, ACC 1, DEF 1/2, MDF 1/2, AGI 1/2, PRE 1/2, and extra points in CRT.
White Mage: This build was called the Priestess. I assume it was focused on very strong heals, though the high INT makes it a good undead killer as well.
HP 2, MP 3, INT 2, PRE 1, AGI 1, MGD 1, and extra points in PRE.
Gray Mage: This build was called the Shaman. Magic focused.
HP 2, MP 3, INT 2, CRT 1, AGI 1, PRE 1, MGD 1, and extra points primarily in INT but occasionally in CRT.
Monk: no special name for this build. Probably didn't get it from the same guide.
HP 1, ATK 2, DEF 1, AGI 1, ACC 2, MGD 1, and extra points split between PRE and MP.
Hunter: no special name, so likely didn't get it from the guide either. TBH, I think it's likely not a great build since one of the Hunter's big things is its Scan abilities, which reduce/elminate the need for the party to actually raise CRT so they can spend the points elsewhere.
HP 1, MP 1, ATK 1, DEF 1, AGI 1, CRT 1, PRE 1, MGD 1, and extra points in ACC.
Engineer: no special name, likely obtained somewhere besides the guide, too. This build treats the Engineer as a caster, which I think makes sense given how its abilities synergize with bombs and fish.
HP 1, MP 2, DEF 1, INT 2, AGI 1, MGD 1, and extra points in PRE.
Thief: no special name, likely not from the guide.
HP 2, MP 1, ATK 2, ACC 1, AGI 1, CRT 1, PRE 1, MDF 1/2, and extra points in ATK or AGI.
Black Mage: no special name; you know the drill.
HP 2, MP 3, INT 2, CRT 1, AGI 1, PRE 1, MGD 1, and extras in INT or CRT.
