Unidentified items
Hi, if I have an unidentified item equiped, will I still receive the effect the item has which I haven't discovered yet?

I have been wondering the same thing. I don't think it works this way, though. Anyone knows for sure?

I think so cause when you complete the level it tells you what you were using

Effects still work if the item is unidentified. It can be annoying for you can't see bad effects. The worst time it happens is when trying to buy something from a shop for it could be 5x the cost, but once you know the item size to cost ratio it can be pretty easy to spot. Commonly, it is best to stick with your base weapon until you find a holy weapon for the starting weapon has max charges whereas everything you find will have nearly none. The only exception to this is picking up an axe for quick walls and a spear for hitting through small dungeons.

Well Tacet_ that depends highly on what difficulties you play and which kinds of worlds.
Do you handpick dimensions from a list or do you just use what you find.
Personally I've only ever got one Holy Weapon and never really saw the need for it. :P
(Aside from, well, you know. The spoiler. I won't say!)
I could see playing Manic being an entirely different story, though!

I usually just use a Scroll of Analysis after hoarding a few items with useful looking weight values.
The only bad effects I've ever seen so far are the shop price ones.
Haven't seen anything be horribly cursed, unlike some items in games like Nethack or Elona.

I usually play event or random. Holy items are found in most dimensions by 1k km and I have yet to see one with none by 2k km. Bytime your starting weapon even breaks you likely already have 100%/200% (50%) chance of identification, so you will know what you ned to pick up. If you find the dimension you are in lacks holy weapons you can go stark needle with an axe, pick up every lance you find (and test between them to see if they are stick or lance), throw arrows and use w/e 2-4 weight swords you find, use the heaviest bow you can find, find an eagle blade (best 8 weight natural drop) or a cresent axe (best damaging natural drop, but low combo), or if you are force user just find any +1 meditate item and walk through the game with lightning causing more havic than the darkness.

My common run on most classes is me going around finding as much energy items as I can while still picking up some kills. If I can find a 6 weight axe I take it, for it is the most viable way of consistently getting through walls for the lowest weight usage. I pick up just about every item to see if I will prock identify. You can do this even if you are full, you just have to drop something if you want to keep it. Don't forget that you can still throw your unidentified items for 2 spaces that damage the enemy based on the weight of the item and the stength of the character. From there, I just keep picking around items until I have a decently charged 4 weight sword, a 6 or 8 weight axe, energy items, any arrows, and some utility items like teleport pills, confusion scroll, or healing potion in order to not need to waist one of the 5 time stops. By this point it should be around 200-400km. I throw arrows for 2-3 spaces away, possibly an item at 2 spaces, and then use my melee weapon at one space. This kills just about every enemy; though, sprints will need to be added if you are a class with it. From here the key pickups are sword saint, anything that can increase quality of a weapon (and hold on to them till you find a good weapon), and gamebracking utilities like teleport pill, buddy tablet, and stamina potions (only if you are a lvl 5+ mountain climber). With no holy weapons, a good weapon pickup at this point would be a silver lance, eagle blade, stark needle, or a cresent axe. Any of these would be a viable contestant for using all your quality on except stark needle. The best order is usually sword saint than all your quality ups. If using save beforehand, you can manipulate what you get from swordsaint. It is usually best to just use stones to up the quality for the random chance isn't worth the negative effects. Also, the flame effect on a melee weapon is a negative effect during lategame for more enemies/chests are likelier to carry a bomb that will ignite for 60% from it. Once you have a decent item built you can kill just about anything with throw arrow, throw arrow, hit. If you have sprint with atleast 1 partner it is throw arrow, throw arrow, sprint, hit, sprint, hit, turn around w/o using turn and heal, sprint, turn back around w/o using turn and hit, and repeat the steps from after the throwing of the arows. And if you are force user you click one button several times, use one stamina item, and repeat until you break every +1 staff in the land.
