ATI video drivers have long had a bad history with Linux, and on the PC in general. Even when talks wre made by AMD buying ATI, the developers at AMD were joking that they shoudl keep the chips, and dump the driver developers at ATI.
nVidia has always rocked, and was the first major video card company to produce native Linux drivers. They have the best video drivers for Windows and Linux as well.
The graphics problems are not related to either ATI or AMD drivers or chips -- they are present on all drivers and chips. Check the forum for plenty of details.
The game has serious issues with keyboard and pointer input, in that is entirely impractical to operate the game in any way.
The problems with the linux release is not solely with the graphics and interaction but also with the game simply being tied to your language being set to something with a US keyboard mapping, which, frankly, is just retarded. Real games do not look at text characters a keyboard button produces with any current keymap -- they look at the key value. This game doesn't.
The fact is that a linux release was promised and delivered with no testing at all. There has been no real effort to remedy the problem in any way and when anyone tries to raise the issue the developers simply start spouting advertisement for another game they are trying to peddle which is not really related to this game.
