How do i make my plane take off better?

New to this game, i swear no matter what i do the planes im making just refuse to take off. They always run off the runway and thats without any weight. It makes doing the missions so difficult because any additional weight to my plane, basically grounds it.

I may just be doing something wrong and someone just needs to tell me what to do because its so frustrating building a plane, flying to where the mission is, my plane doesnt take off, tp back to home base to try to fix plane, fly all the way back to where the mission is, still doesnt work, repeat.

It's not fun and i want to enjoy the game but i genuinely dont know what i need to do differently. I see that other wings help with lift but i cant afford them because i cant finish any missions to get more scrap.

Any advice is appreciated.
