Why is my contrast so low compared to other users?
I've been struggling to read the text in the game for a while now. I thought it was just a poor choice of font / colors by the developer at first. Now though, I'm starting to see other user's screenshots, and their text is MUCH easier to read than mine. Is there some setting you all are using that I'm not seeing that makes things easier to read? I'm already in dark mode.

For example, this is what I'm seeing https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197963215236/screenshot/2437081273436114113/

Same issue here. Went through the entire game barely able to read any descriptions due to the very light text on white background.

If you're playing on linux as well, it's probably due to the intended font used by the developer being unavailable, and the fallback font isn't great with the thinner text. The easy solution, in this case, would be to add an option to disable the thin descriptions, and use a regular font weight instead.

Thats dark mode. open the menu and hit the flashlight in the lower left corner. if you have trouble finding it, try other window sizes (the dots on the left of the screen).

I too find the heavy vignetting of dark mode very distracting.

Light mode is even worse. Here's my screenshot: https://imgur.com/a/Tnr6GuL

In addition, on my hidpi screen the text is really, really tiny, and the combination means that I simply can't read it.

interesting problem, my text is clear and crisp!
Which resolution do you use? 4K? mine is 1440p (ultrawide) and the image is perfect.

That's most likely the problem! Thanks. Do you happen to know what font it's trying to use?

I can confirm that text on Linux has really bad legibility. The font is called Montserrat (Thin) and it's shipped as TTF with the game files. But installing it as system font isn't going to make any difference. The problam appears to be with subpixel hinting and this particular font - it just doesn't look good with Linux font rendering, or at least I didn't find any font rendering setting that made it look any better.

I can't even decipher what this light-grey on white text should be on the right and on the bottom left.

I suspect that on some systems (linux/proton especially) variable fonts don't render properly for some reason. I'll change the font files in the next update.

Thanks!

What version would that be ? I'm playing on a 2256x1504 laptop, and the font size itself is the main problem. It's about 6 pixels high.

I can say that on Debian this doesn't seem to be an issue. Or, at least it isn't for me.

I would report this as a bug on Discord (main menu, top left corner). It sounds like the font scaling setting of the OS isn't registering correctly - which wouldn't be the first time I see that on Linux, in particular if you use fractional scaling.

Discord is the worst possible place.

That might be the case but that is where you can file bug reports or feature suggestions and be sure the developer sees them.
