Help, Spell Range?

Hello all,

I've just gotten into this game a week ago and I'm having trouble casting spells. I'm only getting about 1 tile of range(melee) from spells learned from books such as plane shift, virulent orb, flaming orb, etc. I assume that you are supposed to be able to cast these spell from many tiles away otherwise mages would be useless. Is there a special key to target for spells? Wands, scrolls and skills work fine.

You either need the Focused Casting talent or the Divine Reach celestial spell. These two allow you to cast at long ranges.
