For the armour, just find it in the game as normal. For example, collect the Draconic Hood, Draconic Robes, Draconic Gloves, Draconic Boots, Draconic Spaulders, and Draconic Vambraces. For the staff, find or craft a normal (important: not wizard) staff.

Be aware that the special staff you get will only boost spells of the same school as the armour you sacrificed.

if you're lazy just reset for any mage encounter (gyffendal/ryan/altara) since they always have the full set, and buy a normal staff(not the kind that teaches an orb spell).

the hard part is finding a way to revive anyhow lol

Blessed Scroll of Animation, or have a guy spawn with an Amulet of Nine Lives and successfully revive from it.

Check that you have 10 unique black soul gems of: Agony, Hunger, Thirst, Wrath, Greed, Pride, Sloth, Envy, Gluttony and Lust. Duplicates are useless.

Is the 10-curse thing worth it? I've tried it a couple of times, but never felt like I was getting impact worth permanently tying up 10 inventory slots.

the issue with max curses is that hunger and thirst do practically nothing, and of the remaining 8, only agony deals damage, everything else just reads "has a chance to make the enemy miss their turn".

it's a very strong disabling effect at +6, requiring the enemy to roll 2d6>8 seven times in a row at minimum to move as they they intended to, but the problem is, so does Electric Orb with 100% guarantee if it procs shock (and it does 20dmg upfront).

if you have agony+gluttony+sloth it's already decent with the enemy having a ~8% chance to have a turn, so it's definitely usable, but frankly i cant be bothered with soul gem grinding and the good old Flaming Orb+Electric Orb combo is all i need.

btw, hunger/thirst are extra bad because they'll make encounters try to get away early and destroy the stairs/ladder similar to if your 360-turn encounter timer was up, and i've lost runs due to Corrupting Cloud rolling one of them making the encounter softlock me in <20 turns.

Why Flaming + Electric? To prevent death by elemental?

yes, i'd use Flaming exclusively if i could (if burning procs it guarantees death on normal enemies and monsters, it also destroys wooden objects like closed doors/chests and burns down spider webs if it crits, which almost makes Telekinesis useless), but unfortunately fire elementals exist so i use Electric too.

when my mage is complete the loadout generally goes something along the lines of:
Loadout 1: Flaming Orb, Electric Orb, Plane Shift, Mirror Image, Mass Dismissal, Raptor Strike, Renewing Touch
Loadout 2: Diving Grace, Divine Might, Divine Reach, Mage Armor, Amplify Magic, Illumination, Fairy Flight
Legendary effects: Hateful Aura, Orbus Bomba

Mirror Image is just for checking unexplored nooks/crannies in 1 turn instead of 2 turns but it's also surprisingly good to distract encounters, and if you are wearing a Ring of Shielding then your illusions will also have a mana shield, making them a lot better.

Mass Dismissal/Raptor Strike are useful for Gurmur and Badakath. Badakath in particular has something stupid like 30/30 chromatic resistance (physical felt like 20-25 ish), to the point where with a max damage mage (21-60dmg orbs) my orbs sometimes do zero, so the dot from bleeding is actually my best source of damage lol

If Flaming Orb destroys things, do you still get the normal loot? I know Telekinesis changes the contents of chests.

Do you only use Raptor Strike on those bosses, or does it have other applications?
Pear Jan 24, 2021 @ 10:41am
less loot and significantly less gold for sure, my hunch is it's the equivalent to bashing it open with STR so i try to aim away from chests and only use it to bust closed doors and closets.

last i checked a couple months back Telekinesis still worked with Golden Chastity Key, is it worse than picking by hand now?

Raptor Strike is ~7dmg/turn with +6 mod, assuming Blessed Amulet of Free Action, against enemies with "normal" resistances they'll have to survive around 3-4 turns, or 6-8 orbs for it to be worth, which nothing does, so that leaves exactly Gurmur, Badakath and the king fight for my typical playthrough (Equalizer for Balthar and pretend Skaldir/Ch'Ri/Nabon don't exist).

Hi Doro. That was a difficult challenge for me. I don't remember if there's an old school way to do it that works as a guarantee. As you say, BSoS didn't work. That might be the old way and its bugged, I don't remember.

What worked for me was liberalism.

However the odds seem to be somewhere between 1/250 and 1/1000, which is why it's easy to conclude against it. I'm not sure why, there might be a way to speed the process up, but I couldn't find one, so I don't know what it's rolling against, especially with those odds.

For Dark Shroud, I self-cursed, but its bugged now. The alternative way might be easier though. eat Ken'nih

---

I did discover that it's possible to complete both the surrounded by tentacles and the rest in lava challenge without taking any damage at all, and they complete instantly (lava challenge after 5 turns while you're still inside).

Infernal has Strong Will and +5 STA so in order to befriend it you need it to roll 2 crit fails, or 1/36^2 = 1/1296. It goes down to 1/12^2 or 1/144 if you nerf its STA (and now we know why Nibbe put that talent in the game in the first place).

BSoS might've never worked, I knew it enslaved it but maybe it doesnt count.

I'm guessing Radiance Amulet: Fire for lava? Wanted to test that for some time but kept forgetting.
