Doggy
Should I train my dog on snails etc, or an increase in the level of the enemy depends on the Woof's level?

The general idea is to keep it as close to your level as possible. I *think* the enemy level is dependent on the highest between you and Woof, so it is certainly worth it to let Woof munch on snails and disarm traps early on, since in later stages you will outlevel Woof quickly (and Woof is extremely squishy once you hit lv12 so every hp increase matters). You will however want to maximise exp gain for Woof for certain objectives (level heritages, Prodigal Son/Pacifist challenges). In no scenario will you want to remain lv1, and even for challenges you should be within 2 levels from Woof.

Once you starting running mages non-stop, Woof becomes an exp sponge for when you don't want to level up too fast to allow more time to prepare for encounters/monsters, as well as a meat shield. While in the early game it's practically a bear, keeping it alive beyond lv12 becomes a chore (Woof is only lv7-9 by then) so I usually stop caring around lv15 if I have a decent build going.

Thank you, that was helpful. On later levels mages prevent my dog from keeping alive, meh.

Keep your dog out of ranged combat, as you should avoid it also. Make ranged attackers follow you around a corrner, through a chokepoint preferably. Don't let your dog be your only pet. To unlock power ups for future dogs, let them level ahead of your character at first, a couple of levels.
