GUIDE: How to install 64-bit version!
DEV NOTE:

The game does not gain anything from running in 64-bit. It performs worse and is more likely to crash. There is no reason to run the game in 64-bit. Before trying anything else, please switch back to 32-bit.

-Stefan

OP REPLY TO DEV NOTE:

The main reason for running the 64-bit version is because some mods require it (Tomoko's NyanGoat mod, for example, will cause a crash when running the 32-bit version). Otherwise there really is no reason to use 64-bit.

-Andrew

REPLY TO REPLY TO DEV NOTE:

This issue has been resolved in the latest patch. But the mutators will have to be recooked.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
IMPORTANT: This guide assumes that the setting "Hide extensions for known file types" in the Windows Explorer folder options is turned OFF. If you have not turned off this setting, please don't include the ".exe" file extension when re-naming executable files.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

METHOD 1:

1) Install "Goat Simulator Development Kit" from the tools section of your game library

2) Navigate to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\GoatSimulator\Binaries"

3) Copy and paste the "Win64" folder to the desktop (make sure you copy and paste instead of drag and drop)

4) In the "GoatSimulator\Binaries" folder, rename the existing "Win32" folder to something else (such as "Win32.old")

5) Open the "Win64" folder you copied to your desktop and rename "GoatGame.exe" to "GoatGame-Win32-Shipping.exe"

6) On your desktop, rename the "Win64" folder to "Win32", then drag and drop it into the "GoatSimulator\Binaries" folder

7) Open Steam and click "Play" to run the game in 64-bit mode!

Here's a how-to video i made showing how to do this method: http://youtu.be/f9jP602C2y0
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

METHOD 2:

1) Install "Goat Simulator Development Kit" from the tools section of your game library

2) Download the 64-bit launcher from here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxqNSAmO_ReCOEpqTEItYWswVjg/edit?usp=sharing

3) Navigate to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\GoatSimulator\Binaries\Win32"

4) Replace the existing "GoatGame-Win32-Shipping.exe" with the 64-bit launcher you downloaded from the above URL.

5) Open Steam and click "Play" to run the game in 64-bit mode!

1) I need to know if it is the 64-bit version, or else the game will not run in 64-bit mode. Here are instructions on how to find out which version you have: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827218

2) The file i linked to is a different one from the one in your Win32 folder. The one i linked to is a program i literally just wrote an hour ago that will launch the file GoatGame.exe from your Win64 directory.

You can't play the 64-bit version, but the regular 32-bit version should still work just fine.

then i guess i should delete the whole SDK and everything else so i can play on 32-bit, right?

Which method did you use? Did you make sure that the executable has the correct name?

I MAY of found out why it is giving erros on startup. I followed this guide, but I DID NOT uninstall the GSDK (Goat Simulator Development Kit). Alo, remove the .exe from the filename. The file is already a .exe, so instead, rename it "GoatGame-Win32-Shipping". Ok, so when I followed the guide but did not uninstall the GSDK, it worked fine. I could run it in 64 bit mode throught Steam, without any errors. Then, I ran a test and uninstalled the GSDK. I looked at the files and the Win64 folder was gone, but the Win32.old and Win32 folder were still there. I tried to run the game, and it gave me an error. I deleted the Win32 folder, and went back to the old Win32 folder, and it worked. So, I think the GSDK is required to run in 64 bit mode. You can't uninstall it or else it will throw you an error. Hopefully that will help some of you guys!
It depends on which of the two methods you used. If you use method 1, the game should start if you uninstall the SDK, but some mods may not work without the Win64 folder. In method 2, the launcher points to the executable file in the Win64 folder, so it is required in order for it to work. The SDK itself is not actually required, just the Win64 folder. In fact, if you look at the guide, i actually removed the "uninstall SDK" step when i realized that people were having this issue. Also, when i said rename it to "GoatGame-Win32-Shipping.exe" i was assuming that most people turn off "Hide extensions for know file types" in their folder options. If this setting is enabled, including the file extension at the end would be the same as naming the file "GoatGame-Win32-Shipping.exe.exe". I just kind of figured that it was common sense...

I tried both methods but neither worked for me. As soon as I open the game, the "Preparing to launch Goat Simulator..." window opens for a split second, and then disappears. Nothing I do works!
