Goat Simulator

Can't get past first time setup "Installing: Microsoft.NET Framework 4.0..."
I was pretty excited for Goat Simulator, but I can't get it to run.

The first time I tried to start it it ran through the usual first time setup process. It went through 3 of 4 setup programs, but when it got to the 4th, "Installing: Microsoft.NET Framework 4.0...", it just kept going for over an hour. I exited out of the install and tried to run it again, and this time it looked like the "Installing: Microsoft.NET Framework 4.0..." part went through, but the game didn't start. When I tried to start the game it kept bringing up the "Installing: Microsoft.NET Framework 4.0..." screen, but not launching after that screen went away.

Help please?

I tried the following fixes, none of which worked:
- Verified integrity of game cache
- Deleted the DotNet subfolder and used the verify integrity function to reinstall those files
- Deleted all local content and reinstalled

None of that has worked, and I keep running into the same problem. Help?

find installscript.vdf in the game's folder and delete it.

go to your steam folder, go to steamapps, then common, then goatsimulator, then look for installscript.vdf and delete it.

This is more an issue with Steam than Goat Simulator, you might have better luck in a different forum. Not to be rude, of course.

I found a solution that worked for me in this thread:

FWIW I fought with exactly this set of symptoms and hacked my way to goatage thusly

- Do as suggested elsewhere, run the game outside of Steam, as admin
- Take noat of the error message: in my case, it couldn't find xinput1_3.dll, a common DX file
- Find this file on your PC, it most surely exists. Copy it to the same dir as the game executable
- repeat for any other files, in my case just x3daudio or something

The .NET was a red herring thrown by the reall error not being reported by the Steam interace. I wasted time trying to install it and the other support libraries, when in fact win8 has them all. Game just didnt look hard enough

I have 'runasadmin.vdf', not what you are saying.
