Report a translation problem
For starters, you can change the outfit at the Shop in the level, you didn't need to quit to menu. Second, you quit the stage and assumed Checkpoint that it says is the in-stage checkpoint. The game has 2 kinds and it doesn't tell you the difference. There is the checkpoint in the level that's used only when in that level for things like saving currency and items while the other is the checkpoint of what levels you've completed. If you go ALL the way to Main Menu, you lose the in-level one and anything associated with that.
