Infinite Staircase meaning

What is the meaning of the infinite staircase right after sculptures? I walked for almost 10 minutes just to find a dead end at the top of the stairs lol. And why is the only way to get out of the staircase is to stand still for 30 seconds. Is it some advanced metaphor or something? Super cool game, just wondering if anyone has any ideas :)

After you get out of endless staircase, go back the path you came from and you should find new path with light guiding you.
