Fistful of Frags

Why does this game make my computer run so hot/loud?
Must be because of all the people asking to pass the whisky, my rig cannot handle it.

But seriously it runs loud and i check speedfan and my CPU goes up to 60 C, with my gpu at about 53 C. A game running on the source engine shouldn't do that, left 4 dead 2 and Team Fortress 2 do not do this to my computer, I run more or less the same graphics options for all 3.

I tried turning off anti aliasing and setting the fps cap to 60 but this doesn't change anything D:

Update: Set all my graphics options to lowest possible and my CPU still runs at 60 C. There has to be something about this game that doesn't like AMD CPU's.

taken from my reply:

Well just to make sure I wasn't talking out of my corn hole I booted up Left 4 Dead 2 and Team Fortress 2 today, stress tests really! Crescendos and full servers a-ho. And the temperatures and fan speeds for both games is lower than Fistful of Frags. Both TF2 and L4D2 run at about the same temperature when things are actually going on on screen, maxing at about 55 C for the CPU, 50-51 for the GPU.

Fistful of Frags as I said earlier runs my cpu to 59-60, as well as the GPU hitting 55 C today! These are very safe temperatures regardless, however I don't think a Source mod should be stressing my computer more than either of the other two games, while not a bad looking game it doesn't really have any effects or anything else that makes it more demanding. Especially with the only physics being ragdolls and sparse usage of crates and barrels.

I wish I could give more technical details but there's not a whole lot else I can offer really :P Just that my fans are obnoxious with this game lol.

Need more info like,

  • CPU
  • Ram
  • Graphics card
  • OS

There is only one other complaint about this and that way we can compare.

On a side note: 60C CPU and 53C GPU is nothing to worrie about.
It is actually not even high temprature.

Yes I know it's not a very high temperature, but it's just strange this game runs hotter than the other 2 games I play. I guess it's just this makes my fans run louder.

I have a AMD FX 6399 6 core 3.5 Ghz, 8 gb RAM, HD Radeon 7850 and Windows 7.

Same here ;)
However, limiting to 60FPS helped a lot (for me).

I am gonna do some more "asking arround" see what my friends have, but as for Gigan I wont change anything, those temps are ok.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure multicore rendering only utilizes four cores.

well you can add myne, i havent complained because it hasnt caused my laptop to crash. but yeah, this game really cranks out the heat on my laptop. an AMD A6 APU. i can run left for dead 2 or team fortress 2 on pretty high settings and they wont give out this kind of heat. i have to actually move my hand a bit further away from my laptop so its not uncomfortable due to the output.

not much of a big deal like i said because it hasnt crashed my laptop. but since he's mentioning it and it seems to be an AMD thing. you can add myne to that list.

im on windows 8.1 64bit and 4gb ram
