Fistful of Frags
This topic has been pinned, so it's probably important
FYI: You got "banned", now what?
About "bans":
First of all, there are several types bans that might be involved. These might include:
  • VAC-bans: This is when Valve bans your account. Generally, this should not apply to Fistful of Frags (FoF). Typically this is Valve issuing a ban on your account because of something you did on CS2 or one of their other games. However, some Fistful of Frags (FoF) servers may implement a system that checks connecting player's account for a VAC-ban, and consequently kicks them from their Fistful of Frags (FoF) servers.
  • Game-wide FoF ban: This is when the developer decides to ban your Steam account from Fistful of Frags (FoF) entirely. Typically, these are (or were) issued for players the developer felt were cheating or griefing the system in some way. These are very rare. Even more so since (as of December 2024) the developer has been missing-in-action (MIA) for many months.
  • Server-specific bans: This is when a particular server bans your Steam account from playing on that account. This might be for some temporary period (e.g. 1 hour, 24-hours, 1-week, etc.) or might be effectively a permanent ban. However, these bans typically only effect either a single game-server, or a group of servers with the same ownership.

About "servers":
There are several things you need to understand about Fistful of Frags (FoF) game-servers:
  • Unlike some other games, there currently are no "official" game-servers for Fistful of Frags (FoF). There were some "official" servers ages ago, when the game first launched. However, they have long-since been retired. Keep in mind, that this is an entirely free game - never requiring or accepting any form of payment, not even microtransactions for in-game items (ala TF2). Nor is there any advertising mechanism built-into the game itself (although some individual servers have implemented some advertising themselves) So, there is no revenue to pay for "official" servers.
  • Consequently, all game-servers for Fistful of Frags (FoF) are effectively "community" servers - meaning each are owned and operated by individual fans (or groups of fans) of the game. Each may have their own unique configuration settings and content.
  • Each such game-server has their own policies and nuances to how they operate and moderate their own game-servers.
  • Each effectively decides who they ban, when, why and for how long.
  • Each may or may not issue warnings before kicking/banning somebody.
  • Each may delegate in-game moderation to different groups or individual - who may in-turn have their own "pet-peeves".
  • Each may use different server-side software (if any) to manage bans.
  • Each may or may not provide a mechanism to "appeal" or "protest" a ban.
  • Appealing/Protesting a ban, might be accomplished by messaging them on Steam, on Discord, filling-out an on-line form on their SourceBans system, or frankly not provide any mechanism - in which case you are out of luck.
  • Each may or may not monitor this area on Steam for people inquiring about bans on their servers.

So what now?
If you are going to ask for help or information about your ban on here, you will probably need to provide some information.
  • Which server did you get banned from? Without this information, there is no point in even asking. Because, as noted above, every server it potentially operated by a different group or individual.
  • Typically, bans are associated with your Steam account. So, as long as you are posted with the game Steam account you game with that was banned, you should be okay. If not, you may need to provide a link to it.
  • It may also be helpful to include approximately when you were banned. If it was several months ago, it is less likely anyone will be able to help you - unless that server is using some sort of SourceBans system.
You'll have to be patient, because the server owner that operates the server that banned you may not visit this forum regularly (if at all).

A suggestion to server owners:
Of course, these are merely suggestions. So, take them with a grain of salt.
  • Post a link to whatever rules and/or appeal information you might have, or ideally to your appeal/protest function if you are using SourceBans[sbpp.github.io].
  • If you have link for appealing, perhaps provide whatever procedure you do have (i.e. who to contact on Discord, of maybe to open a thread in their own Steam Community Group page, whatever, etc.).

I will try to maintain a list of such links in the first reply below.

Im still playing this game and i can assure you that im not a nazi neither a "transsexual", go out and touch some grass please, it will do you good.

..or you could always..pass some whiskey! ;p
I like how everybody says the game is "dead" or "dying", and yet its still here - and still has people playing. Why bother to comment on something that is already "dead", either play it or move-on.
Add a report player option and continue to work on the game please 🙏

With the HSB update, would it potentially trigger a VAC ban as it messes with the DLL files?
