Fistful of Frags

So... weapon drops. How do they work?
I've been playing this game for the past two days, and i just don't get how it works. Logically you'd think killing someone who is holding a gun, drops the gun for you to pick up and use. This appears to be the case when i play - my gun drops besides my corpse every time.

On other people? Seems like i can easily go and get a streak of 3-4 kills and not a single enemy weapon will drop, even if they were shooting me with it the moment they died. As someone who enjoys dualwielding, this is very annoying, since it limits my usefulness for seemingly no reason at all.

Can someone explain how it actually works? Is there a trick to not let weapons magically disappear?

Maybe they balanced it? Like imagine someone pickin' colt walker or sharps rifle after killing the wielder.

However one thing that bothers me is; How to get 2 Colt Walkers? When golden crate only gives you only 1...

IT seems those guns actually DO drop. I haven't noticed anyone using a higher tier weapon and not dropping it, but the standard guns rarely drop from my enemies. When dualwielding, the standard pistol most people use is perfectly fine, i just want A secondary to complement my sawed off :P

Survive long enough and pop open the golden loot chest again.

Also, I don't know what's up with the consistency of people dropping their weapons. Sometimes I drop my Deringers, other times I eat my Volcanic Pistol. Hopefully you get an answer.

If I remember correctly, it depends on how used the weapon is.
If the weapon was just received (from spawn or a crate) or almost, it will drop. Else, nope.

That sounds fairly awkward, especially for people looking to dualwield... this more or less suggests camping on either crates or spawn, no?

This seems quite accurate.
It seems that weapons will despawn. (like if some guy has had the walker in a certing long time and dies, the walker will not drop.)

All firearms, as far as I can see, have infinite ammunition stores. Instead, firearms have a quality value that steadily degrades as you use them. When the person using the firearm is killed, if the weapon has a quality value low enough, it simply won't drop. Otherwise, the firearm is dropped, and the quality value will affect the reload time for the person that happens to pick it up later.
Why no one else has assumed this I am not sure.
Note this is all speculation after a few hours of idle play.

I like how you don't have to worry about ammo and such, but I wish there was an ammo counter for weapons like the dynamite and the knives that actually do have a limited usage.

Knives, I think you have 3? I don't use knives much though, I am a dynamite ♥♥♥♥♥..
You spawn with 3, I didn't know how many you got if you picked them up. I assumed one.
Knives, you spawn with 3, thrown ones can be picked up for one. What about death pickups?

Also, bow/dynamite or knives/boot.

You can tell how many you're going to get by the color of it when you pick it up. If you're only going to get one dynamite, for example, it will have a yellow outline instead of a green one.

I have picked up RED coachguns and Walkers... Reload time was the same as if picked up freshly from a chest...

I think the color highlight indicators on dropped guns are just a heads up on how much ammo is in the gun. (Green being fully loaded or maybe only one shot have been fired, and RED being either empty and needs to reload or maybe only has one bullet left in the chamber.)

If that is what you are reffering to?

It says on the death messages on the bottom of the screen that low-quality weapons have longer reload times.
Unless it's only true for some weapons, I guess.
Or I'm blind.
