How to create a private server?

Whenever I join an empty server, some bots automatically spawn. How do I create a private server with a password so I can play with my friends only? I've tried using Create server from the main menu, but when my friends try to join, it says "Server not responding."

If you're having issues with connectivity, NotObigaming is usually pretty quiet. I've done a lot of work to it recently (stability fixes, custom ranking, that sort of thing) but I'd really appreciate it if somebody and their friends could test it and provide feedback.

I'll make sure to try your server out, but I don't have a lot of time at the moment. I'll be able to make it during the weekend. :DD
