Fistful of Frags
Frags vs notoriety
What's the fall-off for winning by highest frag count?

I noticed I can be 14 frags higher than 1st place, but still lose the match if their notoriety is slightly higher than mine.

I wish frag count was the primary factor of determining victory :)

Notoriety is a big part of how this game achieves balance. The idea is that higher skill play is rewarded more. If you got 50 frags in a game but died 45 times, is that really a better showing of skill than my 45 frags with only 5 deaths? Is your 50 frags with the one shot kill Walker pistol really more meaningful than someone who managed to get 40 with the bow?

As said, notoriety tries to balance the weapons, the higher skilled weapons award more points, although I think there's still room for improvement, a few examples:

Derringer & Hammerless vs Navy. The first group awards 9 points, but the Navy gets you 10. Is the Navy really a harder weapon to use than the Derringer & Hammerless?

Mare's Leg gets you 6 points. Yeah, you can kill someone with a single headshot, but considering weapon innacuracy it's not such an easy feat. Is headshotting someone with a Mare's easier than doing the same with the Smith carbine to award 6 points compared to the Smith's 7?

Yeah as a skill-based score it works well. I think coming from older FPS games, I see this as two entirely different game modes:
- Frag Race
- Gun Master

Frag Race - Scored on frag quantity (jump in the swimming pool and do whatever it takes to get to the end first).

Gun Master - Scored on gun skill (cowboy posse initiation; man with the most impressive gun skills wins).

Would be neat if there was a way to set that as a scoreboard option for servers...so eg. you might search for "shootout" and "frag race" tags if you want a match with no teams or notoriety.

if the game becomes based on frags in shootout then a lot of weapons become useless, just play teamplay or elimination if you want frags to determine the outcome of the game

Technically, Gun Game servers award victory to the first person to reach a set amount of frags. Maybe you would find more enjoyment there.

The issue with a straight up shootout based soley on frags is that it would become an annoying cesspool of duel wielding walker players and sharps campers. Probably some roaming spencer and peacemaker users as well, but those would be a little easier to live with.

Maybe you could eliminate some of those concerns by removing chest weapons and perhaps the smith from the standard loadout options, but then you're really narrowing down player options. I dunno.
Yeah having options would be cool, like if server creation could toggle things like chests, money, whether you are scored based on frags or skill, etc.

Sometimes ya just feel like having a silly match where you shoot whatever moves and have all guns available lol.

I can imagine with a setup that allows for far more game modes, you'd have all sorts of combinations available for servers, eg:
- Shootout + Frag Race
- Shootout + Gun Master
- Team Deathmatch + Frag Race
- Team Deathmatch + Gun Master
..etc.

I see a few pretty massive flaws in FoF's balance.

Assuming equal skill level the Smith Carbine outguns every other starting weapon.

Assuming non-equal skill levels (pubstomping), the Colt Navy>Volcanic are the two best choices, because nothing can keep pace with its 10 Notoriety per frag.

This is before we even touch the uselessness of certain chest weapons, like the Coachgun which is a nerfed Smith Carbine with worse Notoriety gains and costed you $50 + the time to buy it.

Indeed, if you're playing against a skilled person using a Navy and you really want to win, you're forced to use a 10 notoriety gun too, win by a huge frag difference (sometimes 20 frags or more depending on the gun) or pull off a massive killstreak.

I think its the opposite reasoning though, If you headshot someone with the Smith, its accuracy, if you headhsot someone with the mare's leg its more luck, also the mare's leg's biggest asset is probably the absolutely massive clip size.
