EXP Distribution regarding locked characters.
I was once able to unlock all of the four party members while avoiding unnecessary fights. Once I unlocked Lance, I proceeded to kill all the enemies that I had previously ignored. However, I am now on a new save and Mighty Oak feels a lot harder to beat than before. I was just wondering if defeating enemies before the other party members are unlocked causes them to lose out on exp, or if they get the exp either way.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I play on Epic difficulty with all the challenges enabled.

Yeah the level you unlock characters at is fixed so by not skipping optional encounters you lose out on some XP, but the difference is so minimal that it's probably not worth doing, if you really wanna min-max it you can do only required encounters until you unlock Natalie, but doing so with Lance too is overkill

Pretty sure regardless of which level you are at when you unlock the characters, they will always come in at set levels (Matt Lv.2, Natz Lv. 6, Lance Lv. 9). Don't think challenges should affect that, but haven't done any testing regarding that (Difficulty definitly doesn't affect it, as I have done solo runs on Epic before, and they always joined at the same levels).

Yeah, it was absolute hell to get past Mighty Oak before and it feels even harder now so I just gave up and farmed the previous opponents. I didn't even upgrade my gear too so I went ahead and did that. I wanted to min-max so that I could have better chances of killing the Praetorian MKII, which was the roadblock of my previous run. Thank you for the insight!
No worries mate
