Choppy Framerate?
I just bought this game like an hour ago but I can't really play it because the game is really laggy (as in a choppy framerate). I've searched the forums and tried every option that I could think of, but I can't find seem to fix it.
I have a Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 video card, so that can't be the problem. My operating system is Windows 8.1 64bit.

I'm not really asking for a refund as of yet, because I really like this game (played it on Kongregate) and I'm just hoping for a solution/fix.

Note: The reason why I didn't post this in the "Official Technical Problems Thread" is because I wanted to make this a discussion itself, as other people seem to experience this problem too, and maybe someone has a solution for it.

Is it the same issue where the game lags when you move the mouse over buttons and stuff like that?

A few people have brought that up, but no one's found a solution yet.
I can't reproduce the problem either.

My guess is that the game doesn't agree with something on your system, but I don't know what yet.

I think I've found a solution.
Anyone having this problem should send me a message, and I'll send you a slightly different version of the game.

Even though the framerate has improved, it's still not as smooth as on the Kongregate version.
The new version doesn't seem to cause further problems though. But if new problems do occur, I'll let you know.

Hi,

I'm sorry for the necropost, but I couldn't add you as a friend in order to send a message (and I don't think it fits the profile comments either).

I'm also experiencing a huge fps drop when hovering over dynamic object (like buttons, menus).
Not sure if you still have that modified version, but I'd like to test that if I may.
Also, I can try helping you figure out the problem, the free kongregate version really works nicely here as well, so whatever is affecting it is either: related to the paid content (although I can't verify that since I don't have the paid kongregate version), the paid content not found in the paid kongregate version or it might be related to the software you're using to convert your flash project to .exe, it doesn't seem like a normal swf->exe conversion.

If only a handful of people are having this issue, it could very well be an incompatibility problem with whichever of those problems.

If we can isolate the paid version from steam, I could very easily run it on a virtual machine to check if the problem is related to the operating system itself.
If we can have the non-exe(swf) version, we can validate if the problem only happens to the exe version, which would isolate the issue to something in said conversion. Or if we can have the same conversion to exe for the free version, we could also check if the paid content is responsible or if the conversion is.

Anyway, those are my ideas for an initial investigation of the issue.

Thanks again for the great game, I've played many of them a long time ago, and I always liked it, so I'd like to help if I can, and even better if I can play it without said problem :)

See you.

It doesn't seem to be just a few select computers, it looks like a few more then a handful have this issue. The main issue seems to be mouse control based lag. Once you switch to keyboard in the options everything speeds up to normal even on max settings.

So far as I can tell solutions are A: play it using keyboard controls, or B: sit and wait for a fix that may never come.

You should all send Kupo Games a friend request and ask for the newer version.
bloodyshade Jun 22, 2014 @ 10:15am
Yes it is mouse control based lag, because it lags when interacting with the dynamic objects in the game, which is all mouse based afaik.

The configuration on the settings menu only really pertains to map movement, and while that does make things much better, it doesn't really fix the slowness when using the mouse to perform other actions, like accessing menus and clicking buttons.

I've been using keyboard map movement since the start, it was the most logical option in the settings and that made the game very much playable, unfortunately it does make it less enjoyable with this problem.

EDIT: About adding Kupo as a friend, I've tried here and not sure if there's a limit to a friends' list size or what, and I just get "Error adding friend. Please try again.". I searched around and tried the block/unblock quickfix, didn't work either.

I have just updated my video driver(which I thought was already updated) and my problem has gone away. I don't think this was the real cause but just happen to fix the issue since I'm using an ATI card and the OP was a Nvidia card.

The problem is definitely with the software I used to convert the .swf into a .exe (the problem doesn't exist in the .swf version) and there's not much I can do except play around with the settings. I haven't been able to reproduce the problem personally (making it very hard to fix), and I'm still not sure what causes it, but I think it's some sort of compatibility issue.

Some people have had luck disabling some other applications (like Catalyst Control Center apparently) that were running in the background. Some people said this modified version runs better: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/25843558/New%20folder/EBF4.exe
If you want to try it, replace the EBF4.exe in the installation folder with that one, and see if it helps at all.

Besides those suggestions, there's not much I can do without being able to reproduce the problem. If you have a different computer you can use, you could try to see if it works better on that.

If you guys try those suggestions and the game is still unplayable, I can request refunds for you, as I don't know if I'll be able to ever fix it or not.

To the people having this issue, when you say you're having mouse lag when hovering over objects; do you mean you just see slowdown when you are standing still, outside of battle, and moving the cursor all over the screen? That's what happens with me. I'm just now trying out the modified version, and will report back to see if the cursor lag changes.

EDIT: I'm playing with the modified version mentioned above, and the mouse lag still persists. I click my character to move, and if I move the cursor at all lag begins. As others have pointed out, the problem completely disappears when I tried with keyboard controls. It's also lagging during battle when I move the cursor around, with mouse controls.

SECOND EDIT: Well crap, I'm using keyboard controls and now I'm getting cursor lag =/

Hello all,
I thought I should post in here too.
I received the game today too, but am having no lag issues at all.

I saw this thread and sighed as I loaded the game, but to my surprise it was actually better than the flash version. Currently running Windows 8.1, 64bit, and Catalyst 14.6.
(4770k, 280X, etc but that shouldn't be important in this type of game).

I might be able to think of a way to improve your "lag" if you can reply with your OS, GPU Driver version, and also tell us what CPU you have.

Guys,

I actually tested what Angry Cupcake mentioned, which is updating to the latest radeon drivers (I also thought I was using the latest ones), to my surprise the actual production drives are screwed up though (version 14.4), after a complete reinstall of the drivers using catalyst 14.6 beta, I can confirm I no longer experience any mouse lag at all.

So the incompatibility might be related to the specific gfx card drivers being used.

So basically, if you are experiencing this on radeon, at least on my radeon hd 69xx, install catalyst 14.6 beta, which is the most current beta. (14.4, which should be the stable release, has some weird color temperature bugs, again it doesn't affect everybody, but it did here and I found reports on google as well).

I didn't test the modified version yet, and I feel there is no need for that any longer, at least for now.
