essentially I worked on getting the central X covered, and just hoped for the best after that :D
Edit: Give more block puzzles.
Solving puzzles crash course:
1. Identify dead ends, i.e. which directions always end up with the block being stuck in a wall (there are a lot of them in this puzzle, so there's only a limited area where you even have the option of moving around)
2. Check the initial position of the blocks. Do any of them have only one possible way to go?
3. Check the ending positions and how you would reach them with a block, which blocks are suitable or even possible to use for it. Find the strongest link in the chain (i.e. the position where you can't even find 1 solution) because you will not be able to solve the puzzle without this one. Solving the difficult one can severely limit the options for how the rest plays out, since they usually have to interact in a specific way to reach it.
Step 3 is the most important one for this puzzle, my entire solution was basically just revolving about how to even reach that one spot on the middle line. After that, the rest was trivial.
Puzzles are always about ruling out the impossible, figuring out the necessary, then ruling out even more things based on what you found, until there's really only some very few options left. Simple math.
2) try to get the blocks in a line as that guy said
3) when you have 2), it's self explaining.
took me about 10 tries
