You can kill it. Also you get an achievement/medal for killing it on Epic difficulty so you might want to look out for that as an optional challenge
So it's just plain useless talking ?
btw. since you mentioned the epic difficulty. If I raise the difficulty, do I get more EP for kills ?
And I'm not sure though it probably doesn't matter since even on normal you can get by without grinding

Learn when to get what stats on who and what abilities to get on who (protip: forget Gaia Seed and learn it to Nat ASAP) and you're good. An example is that most of the Ashwood enemies are weak to ice and water so you would naturally max those out. But level 1 Ice for Nat and Matt's Water ability is enough to get past all the fights in Ashwood. But the boss is weak to Fire but not Ice. So get level 1 then just max out fire for the Oak fight.
