What's the point of Anna?
I'm still in the first dungeon, but she's not growing on me. I mean in 3 I came to love the trio due to to their interactions and personalities.

But Anna just feels like an unnecessary addition that's two dimensional. Her side of the story doesn't motivate me to keep playing. Does she improve once I get the original crew back together?

Ok, I was afraid that I was just not giving it a chance. I'll push through tomorrow so I can get Lance back.

I think from looking at her default skill tree she's supposed to be a counterpart to Lance. She seems to learn both physical and special.

I think she suffers from new party member syndrome, why use someone new when you can use the characters you know how to play.

'Cause I never liked Lance and Anna is awesome :D
The poor guy was immediately benched and never got the chance to prove himself...

I guess my problem is how she was introduced. Her going to get her village's treasure back isn't the problem, it's how she meets the rest of the crew.

Being that this game comes right after beating the final boss of EB3, the fact that she could get the jump on Matt and not get wholloped irks me. At least give me a plausible explanation, like she used some kind of poison arrow that sapped his strength. The previous game started off saying that the final boss sapped everyone's levels back to one.

But, I'll give her another shot. Maybe playing this game right after finishing the previous one might not have been the best idea.

Well there is an explanation lol:) Matt. nat and lance got lazy and no longer battled so they started to get weak from not enough practice!,anditsnot right after it a bit later.

Ah, I must have missed that line. I clicked through the opening so I could get to the options cause the screen looked fuzzy.

That would explain why they lost their abilities.

Anna is your best friend when it comes to Support skills, as she got Matt's Party evade buff, being the only one with access to Bless status (Stops EVERY status ailment, including Death, Dispel and slime from touching you). Personally I found her FAR more useful than Lance in most cases (gameplay wise), especially on Epic difficulty where defence matter more than anything. She is also very good at inflicting status ailments such as Stagger (guaranteed Crit), Freeze (double damage on next hit) and Stun and her Aqua Arrow is one of the strongest physical Water moves.

That being said I just prefer having my third party member be a Support, as Matt would be the main damage dealer (physical) with Natz as Magic damage dealer/Support and thus Lance (who is more of a jack of all trades in this game) kind of got to warm the bench for the most part.
Ok, thanks I'll keep that in mind and try her again.

I think the setup of Nat, Anna and Lance is honestly a bit too good for a good portion of the mid/lategame, with a hybrid setup of damage/support for the whole team. Both Nat and Lance make good single-target healers, Nat is still going to be your primary healer, but between the mix of buffs and debuffs that the other two throw out you're gonna love having her around. I honestly didn't use Matt a whole lot because there were a lot of spots where none of his skills were viable.

Even early game it feels like Matt is unneeded. I though it was just me but it felt like the perfect balance the previous game had where everyone has their role and always useful was gone.

Well Matt is mostly for Single Target damage, so could definitly see that. That being said, late game I feel like Lance isn't all that useful, his multi target skills has low variety in terms of elemental coverage (Fire, Thunder, Dark and Bomb, which Natz can easily cover with the exception of potentially one turn Hyper Beams with Accelerator Gun). His support skills aren't all that useful when it is mostly shareable except for his single target heal that also heals status effects (on Epic difficulty where your team is likely to take more damage overall than a single target it isn't all that viable, doing multi Heal and either preventing status effects with Bless or heal all status effects is usually better).

I personally mostly used Lance during the Waste Dispostal Plant for his Bomb/Thunder skills (only during the first playthrough as on NG+ nr. 2 and 3 the other members have more than enough coverage) and never after that (and rarely before, maybe for some mob fights weak to Fire/Thunder). Even if Matt mostly only does single target skills, he still dishes out a lot of damage which is more useful vs bosses. That's just me though.
