Pre-generated characters can often allow for a richer, more cinematic story driven game.
As far as being able to make your own character, this doesn't look like that kind of game. Small budget, small studio, I can't imagine they would be able to shoehorn a custom character in.
The same as people will treat our modern Star Trek has just normal and not woke at all, since everything woke today will be their normal. (Hopefully not but probably).
I dont want to get bogged down in the whole "woke" debate, but Id associate that term with a crass, "bash you over the head" subtlety, no nuance, holier-than-thou, puritan preachy-ness.
Start Trek in the older days was not like that- it was generally well written and very balanced & thought provoking.
I miss that old Star Trek. It was always about humanity having hope and aspiring to be better.
