Light a fire question

There is a pile of wood at the top of a tower and you have the option to "use" it and light up a fire there.
I did that and got a sound effect and a single mob spawned, other than that i couldnt find anything special related to that fire lighting, is there anything to it? What is lighting that fire supposed to do?

There are two REALLY ANNOYING guards that spawn later on that mention a beacon and repeat the same lines of dialogue over and over every time you get in their radius.... and they are under a spiral staircase in a place you'll walk back and forth through a lot. Apparently walking to the beacon got most of their squad killed or something.

Actually lighting the beacon gets you an XP bump, but I haven't found anything else other than those idiot guards. I have never not lit the beacon, so those guards could be complaining about something else, but it's the only related event I can remember.

nothing happens special u get like 10,000 xp or it could have been only 1000 but it is just for free xp along your way as far as i can tell.
