How exactly do I kick enemies???

I'm on my 3rd playthrough and I've probably kicked a thousand times but it happened randomly. Now I'm trying to get the 'kick over a ledge' achievement and I found the perfect place for it but I can't manage to kick. I can shield bash the enemy into the pit but somehow kicking never happens.

Hit light attack as you tap forward on the joystick. Similarly, hitting heavy attack while tapping forward will perform a lunge attack.

It's a similar set up as in Dark Souls, and I don't like it. It just feel too finicky for me.

Thanks, it works. But the timing has to be so precise, it only works every third time in battle.

Just 2-hand your weapon and press the button for your shieldspecial (L2 on a controller)
