The art of parrying
Hullo guys I have seen a couple of videos of people playing LOTF and they seem to be able to party enemy attacks, how exactly are they doing this exactly are they looking for in the enemy movement?

Also can anyone explain to me the benefit of different shield types 😃

lol when the enemy is about to hit you, press block. Extrememly obvious and I'm pretty sure the very first enemy in the game is a tutorial and explains blocking and parrying.
Ignore the first guy. To parry you need a buckler class shield, the rogue starts with one. Only buckler class shields are able to parry.

The medium shields do a shield bash which has a minor stun, and the tower shield has a shield slam which has a large stun/knockdown.

Also Tower shields are better at blocking than medium shields which are better at blocking than bucklers.
There are 3 basic types of shields: bucklers, kite shields and tower shields. Each of these shield categories have their own special attack (LT on gamepad). Bucklers can parry, kite shields bash opponents and tower shields can fortify yourself. I started with sword & board brawler who is using kite shields so I cant tell how is the timing on parrying. It is very likely that timing will be important if you want to parry an attack, however, I would not be surprised that the window of opportunity is bigger here than in LOTF.

Suhweet thank you very much pal. I just found myself a nice buckler and was thinking about starting to use it. To parry do I need to hit block or the shield ability button?

LT, L2 or Q to parry

Thank you for the help guys I'll test the buckler and the parry out with my set up later on 😃
Parry is usually high risk-high reward action. Further to this, bucklers also do not block 100% of physical damage and also have significantly lower poise/stability, which means your block can be broken more easier. Just a warning that parrying might hurt a bit while you learn the ropes :)

I would say that buckler is a fall back solution for a rogue character who generally utilizes dual-wielding and only occasionally switches to sword & board. You would still be evading/rolling out of most hits anyway, therefore, less than 100% damage absorption wont hurt so much.

Ahkay I'll play around with it and see how I get on if I can't get my head around it I'll stick to the kite shield. I mainly run around with a staff or dual swords and rarely use the shield unless one of the massive guys with a shield is around.
