Red chests

Can anyone tell me how to open red sealed chests, for example in the planetarium? I have a small and a big rune but they won't open up for me.

You obtain keys for most of them later in the game or around the area.

Just like quest items or do i need one for every single chest?

I got the same issue.
Thought can be opened at NG+ but no, they still closed and i just cant open them.
There is a suggestion that may help rune which u obtain from a god before last boss.

To open the two red chests in the Planetarium, look the Citadel Cellar Key from the monk who's encased in spider webs in the cellar. To get into the cell, Sheild Charge the Wall behind the chest where you get the Monk Staff, kill the mobs inside the cellar, use your prayer on the sigil in the room with the half closed gate, should give you enough time to get in, be careful of the spider inside, loot the key from the cacooned up guy who was spider lunch.
