The little dudes are destroyed by the powerful attack so don't bother too much about them, just get to safety.
I believe the fight is mostly about waiting for an opportune moment to attack then running staying out of reach.
This should be enough info for you to maybe figure out the more finer points of the fight yourself. Depending on earlier choices I believe you can enter the Catacombs without fighting this boss, so you can grind XP there if you wanted (and find loot).
Weight needs to be low, you're in for alot of rolling.
Only need medium/low armor, your sword and gauntlet. Unequip your shield if it slows you down.
Engage the Worshiper, and hug him. (When you stay close he never uses grenades.)
He either does a double swing, wich is easy to dodge, and after that you can (depending on stamina) launch a quick hit or two. And this is the pattern you need to get into.
He can do a double swing again, or (if he does, rinse and repeat)
Or he does the summoning of the tentacle (when he does this just keep strafing the boss in a cicrle - tentacle is slow, no need to additionally sprint)
Or he, and this is what he does often - also the cause of many deaths, launches a quick AOE attack that will leave you stunned if you stay to close. If timed right, you can just back off a bit and then a quick roll back. Should have avoided the blast, then go back in.
Everytime a health bar drops, he will summon what seems like electric small blue fields over the graveyard, at that point, you need to be in one of the small temples, and wait it out till the explosion, failure to do so, will get you killed.
I believe after one or 2 health bars he will at times summon 2 minions - there's even a spacial adio que and animation, wich always spawn from the same 3 possible locations (from when you enter, 1 far right, 1 little to your left, and one across the graveyard) . Lose your lock on the boss, run towards the closest one, destroy it, then quickly run to the other, and this is where you can use your gauntlet. No need for a lock on the pod, get in medium range if its far away, and then projectile it - after that, lock back on the boss.
I often used my gauntlet here for two shots, because if you are far away and lost time running to the closest one, you won't make it to the other to melee it. I just killed him on my NG++ playtrough, have magic enough, can't remember anymore if you can all ready fire twice in a row on NG. :-)
Note: If you fail to destroy the pods in time, you can either try to fight the minion, or lock on the boss and start rolling. The Worshipers sword swings, will actaully kill his own adds.
Note2: You can use the temples to stun the boss. Lure him in, and let him destroy it. But the more you do that, the fewer safe heavens you have when he drops a health bar and does his special attack.
From what i understand in your post, you need to learn to back away in time when he is about to stun.
Do not range attack him, it's pointless.
And the one shot is what i described, run to a temple = safe heaven. (each health bar drop)
It's indicated by him sitting down and doing a summoning ritual.
I recommend light armor and dodging. If you stay close the boss does 2 swings followed by a stunning aoe ground slam (or something). Dodge the swings, hit once, roll away from the stun, hit dodge, dodge, roll away. etc.
As a Cleric, bit more tricky. Same heaviest weapon you can wield, best medium (or heavy) armor your build allows. Hit him a few times, back off to heal, repeat.
Forget spells. Forget the gauntlet here. Unlikely to have enough magic.
In both scenarios, when he winds up for the AOE attack, run for a shrine, which is safe.
You can bait him to attack and destroy a shrine, which leaves him stunned for a few moments and you can get some heavy hits in.
Deal with the mobs in one of two ways. Best (and gets you the better weapon) - stay close to him and he actually kills them for you. Or, kill them in the shrines during the AOE attacks.
BTW, by now you should have been able to get a good two handed sword or axe if you have been exploring well and taking a few risks (back entry path to Citadel for instance)
