No matter the character, I beat him the same way: run to the bookshelf and stay in front of it so that you absorb the books for a while (If you absorb a lot of books, he won't heal himself 100%.). The books will hurt you, a lot, so you have to drink 1 or 2 health potions "while" you're absorbing the books. If you have Shelter power, it's almost impossible to die.
Remember that you have to go behind the bookshelf before he attacks.

thing is i know i have to go behind book shelf, i get his armor to 0, and try to run, mostly he just insta use his attack and kills me, other lucky times he just waits long time, sometimes he regain his armor but loses 1/4 hp, which shouldn't be possible so idk if bug or what.

ok edit, i think i got what u mean now, i used to hit from behind and walk towards bookshelf which triggers his happy button of insta kill, but now i walked infront of him as u mentioned ( didn't know if it had a reason behind it or not, but now i understand ) and it was easy fight lol ty. trash boss xd

the trick is to NOT reduce his shield to 0. i made that mistake a few times till i realized something was off as i was oneshotting the shield with shift each time. once his shield is below 25% hell summon the shelf. if you face the shelf with your shield up you only take stamina dmg btw and still absorb all books. then simply hide behind shelf till nova animation is fully done. once you get this he is one of the easiest bosses in the game. that beeing said they are all easy if you use shift -.- also you should ALWAYS get atleast 21 faith no matter your build. some spells are just TOO good to pass up. and it doesnt hamper your build at all. you get so many spellshard points for free that not getting the spells is never a good idea no matter what build you are.

solace is probaly the worst spelltree. shelter is overrated when dim hope exists and can be gotten before even fighting the 2nd boss. deception stomps the other 2 once you learned stab and shift you become a walking force of nature if used probaly shift can kill the final boss before he can even use his beamlaser at all.

best spells (in terms of usefulness/power)

shift>>>>stab>ram>shelter>rage>the rest is pretty much barely worth mentioning as the spell system is hugely unbalanced sadly. quake is just too slow overall but if it hits most enemies get stomped. solace is pretty medicore and shelter is the only really good spell.

what i did different than other times and successed from 1st try was getting his shield to 0, walk infront of him where he pointed at book shelf, it is like you are blocking his source of power i guess, which delays his super attack, works like charm. now i got his fists and game went from easy to super troll mode >.>

the weapon you get from him depends on his magic type. the fists (str) are pure garbage tough. easly his worst weapon you can go for. the faith one is probaly the best (fire keeper first) as its the only one with a socket and flawless luck runes are OP as ♥♥♥♥ on any weapon plus its stat requirement is the lowest of all 3.

not sure about the agi one as i once tryed agi build and didnt like it. peacemaker + shift is just unbeatable imo. ANY normal enemy is a oneshot. even at ng++ and without any charms. so you dont even need betrayer charm for most enemies. add last stretch trinket for bosses and some bosses fall in 1-2 shift attacks even on NG++ which is just absurdly OP. and all you need is spend 10 points in faith for this. as raising faith doesnt raise the dmg or duration of shift at all i found. its purely weapon dmg based. and since spellpoints are free basicly. you only need 3-4 levels in spellpoints per playtrough. rest comes purely from drops. absolutly worth it.
