My worst fears have been confirmed. What a shame, I loved the first two games but like PC Gamer was hoping that the side crap would be minimised or improved, instead Insominac have doubled down on grindy, uninteresting bloat.

I feel that's a rather harsh score, although the complaints he writes about are quite accurate such as:

""I need someone to try out my electric bike", it's hard not to think Miles and Peter have more pressing stuff to be getting on with."

I'm not familiar with this writer so unaware of his previous reviews but I do wonder if this another example of the worm finally turning and starting to criticising the anodyne characters and side quests that until very recently seemed to be the norm.

The MJ stuff was the worst part of 1, everyone hated those sections. Can’t believe they went ham on John Wick style MJ action.

I wholeheartedly agree with their criticism of the writing. This game has this modern video game writing that is just painfully abysmal. It's so clean, inoffensive and boring that watching paint dry is a more riveting experience.

The gameplay is still fun and I personally have no big performance issues with the game. But the writing... it is insufferable.

People aren't allowed to critique a rushed PC port?
They're right about the port, and the writing, but I think the rest is too harsh. Particularly in regards to "open world design". The issue with SM2 isn't the design philosophy, the concept of having cool, thematically appropriate excuses to swing around New York and simply *be* Spider-Man, is awesome.

It's just that so much of the side content is either unfinished, or teasing stuff for a game we won't see for years (since DLC is no longer happening).

Other than that though, I still love SM2. Despite it not living up to most of its true potential as a sequel. Here's hoping Sony eases off the gas pedal and lets Insomniac cook SM3 for a bit longer.

Between this game, Ratchet & Clank and Wolverine, they were clearly overworked, and it sadly shows in the final product. Same with Nixxes and how this port turned out. There's a lesson to be learned here, but I doubt Sony knows that, lol.

Well Nixxes Software could be the problem then as that could related to data corrupts to go missing. I'll bet you if you validate now ?? You'll have some missing files
The port needs better performance, that's for sure, but everything else is fantastic, I'm enjoying the game as much as the first one.

Mine runs sweets until faced the bosses then the game closed itself down and then when I validate it ??? Claimed to be 631 files corrupts could be Nixxes Software itself too
I'm enjoying the game and my performance is okay but the bugs are bad.

There is a hunter event that doesn't complete if you web up a turret too quickly and there are a few story quests that won't complete if you do them a certain way. For example on the cycle mission where you need to take photos to JJ, if you cycle a certain path near the building site it straight up breaks the game.

I can reload checkpoints and try again but this stuff should have been caught in QA.

I remember the turret thing. Turns out, there was another truck I missed out on the street.
There was only one turret for my event, I looked everywhere for a second one and then I realised I webbed up the turret that was there and destroyed it before the event started.

Yeah I don't agree with that score. Even with the bugs it's not THAT bad. It definitely not a 9 or a 10, but 57%? That's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. It's easily a 7 or 8. Fixing the bugs might would bump that up slightly though.

That, to me, looks like a case of someone had to review a type of game that they don't like or typically play. Like a guy who typically plays and maybe even typically reviews shooters gets forced to review an open world game like this and then gives a ♥♥♥♥ score because it's not their type of game. It does happen. This is why I don't really pay attention to reviews. Most reviewers are full of ♥♥♥♥ anyway. If it looks fun to you, play it. Who cares about someone else's opinion?

PCG also liked Dragon Age Failtard - they can't be trusted. Play the game and make up your own mind.

Yeah, I suspect the difference in tone is rather marked though...
