Marvel's Spider-Man 2

Marvel's Spider-Man 2

Unplayable with RTX 3080, very low fps, try everything
The game stays at a base of 20/30 FPS with the GPU always running at 99%, sometimes it goes up more than that, but then it goes down with a terrible stutter. I've tried everything and it doesn't improve. The same thing happens in Spider-Man 1, when I played on release it was at a base of 100 FPS with DLSSS, and now I have the same problem. Things I've tried:

* Lower the Resolution, even in full HD or 1440p the performance remains the same;
* Try all upscaling modes in performance and ultra performance modes, including activating DLSSS 4 in the Nvidia app;
* Set the graphics to low with all effects turned off (Ray Tracing always turned off);

My PC specs are :

* Asus ROG b760f with latest bios
* I7 14700 (non k)
* RTX 3080 galax 10 gb (at pcie 3.0 because a vertical GPU adapter)
* 32 ram ddr5 running at 4800mhz
* SSD NVME
* Windows 11 with latest updates

Anyone can help me please?

The game is poorly optimized but idiots and YouTubers will probably say that your hardware is bad or you don't have enough VRAM like always :steamhappy:
Yes, the game does need a few updates to fix some of the problems that players are facing, But if it's happening to Spiderman 1 as well it's got to be more than the game.

Is the problem only happening in the Spiderman games?

Are you on the latest Nvidia driver and if you are try an older version. I currently use version 566.36.

It's always just Spider-Man games with all the bugs. I have waited 1 year for many bug fixes in Miles Morales and have taken the time to find a fix for many bugs and published it here.

I think many bugs will not be fixed here either, as there were no updates in the previous parts even though there are many bugs ...

I don't think it's always just the Spiderman games with bugs. I can't seem to think of a game that has come out lately without bugs. Which is sad but again, Let's hope they fix it for people.

I'm running a 3080 as well on an i9 9900k processor, so a few generations earlier than yours.

I find the only way to play the game at acceptable frame rates is to disable the ray-tracing or dial back the resolution to 1920x1080, and even then it can be sketchy. DLSS seems to throw up too many artefacts. Also make sure you are using High texture settings rather than Very High as it seems to have a huge performance hit even with ray-tracing switched off..

As for the bugs on previous Spider-man games, I find that in may cases they can re-occur due to driver updates, and some of the issues can be quite off-putting, and it feels that the AI that NVIDIA tout so much as a game-changer still has a long way to go.

As for fixing the bugs, I get the feeling that Nixxies will work on it until Sony tell them to stop, but it seems that they are trying, and all we can do in the long term is wait until we are in a position to upgrade our GPU's.

Oh well, I'd better see if I can sell both of my kidneys. :steamhappy:

Edit:
I missed that you are now having problems with Spider-man Remastered, which would suggest that much of the problem with the performance is actually down to the new NVIDIA drivers. I had a major crash which led to me clearing the system down.

I am reinstalling Spider-man Remastered to test it out with the ray-tracing. and will update you to let you know if I am having the same problem.

I felt a drop in performance in other games like Resident Evil 4, but nothing as big as in Spiderman 1 which became unplayable.
And yes, always run on latest nvida drivers.

The game can't maintain a stable 30 fps even in full HD at the low preset here, I feel as if they capped my gpu because a year ago I played the first one with good performance and today it's in the same situation, I haven't changed anything on the PC since then...

Was the drop in performance before or after you updated to the latest Nvidia driver?

Spider man 1 i finished on the launch without any problems, then i pick to play last month to get ready to the second and was umplayable. MSM 2 its the same thing since the launch
Actually seems to be a Windows issue since the last update.

Before the system crash while playing Spider-man 2 I don't recall the RTX behaving anywhere near as bad but now it's crud.

I went back to Spider-man 1 and boy was the performance really bad. Tried rolling back the NVIDIA drivers to the December Release, again no joy.

Was able to force some stability to Spider man 1 by setting the Power Management mode in the NVIDIA Control panel to "Prefer Maximum Performance" but no such joy for Spider-man 2.

Looks like we need either a Windows Update or a Driver update to fix the issue, possibly both.

It seems at the moment if I want Ray-Tracing in Spider man-2 I'll have to go back to the PS5 Version which sucks.
sadly most of the games that comes out needs frame generation because if you dont use it the performance is awful
Ironically, I'm using almost the same exact specs.. and it runs gorgeously for me.. until it crashes anyway. But on near max settings @1440p.
Hell.. runs pretty good on my Steam deck too..

When you updated your drivers did you do a CLEAN install? or just let it auto? sometimes it's a good idea to try a clean one.

If you have the raytracing reconstruction on, turn it off. that setting murders my FPS.
Everything else turned up to max and I'm getting 75+ FPS in most area's, but with the reconstruction on, that drops me to <40.

So I guess the problem could be a Windows update that as broken stuff for people. After all a couple of months back a Windows update broke some of Ubisoft's games on Windows 11 but I think they patched it now.

I did a clean install with DDU and all ray tracing options are off. The thing is, I saw some videos on YouTube running well with the same GPU and inferior CPU, and it runs really well on my notebook with an RTX 4060. Apparently the only option will be to wait for a miracle in future Windows or Nvidia Driver updates...
