Game save files getting erased

When I open the game sometimes, randomly the entire story resets and there is no way I can restore it, so I'm being forced to play the story from the start. This has happened twice already when I made good progress in the story. Why is this happening?

May need more information. Are you making manual saves?? I thought the game was deleting my manual saves but it turned out it was just a bug that renamed any save file numbered higher than 5 within the range of 1-5. eg in the load menu my save would be number 4 while in the manual save menu it would be save slot 7. I know it's my most recent save because of the time it shows it was saved and my character level being accurate to my last played session.

My save files don't even exist and wont save at all for Spiderman 2, I have done all of the allow an app through the firewall stuff, but in my documents, there isn't even a save directory folder in it, is there a way to create a save directory? I would put an ss if i could to prove it

having this issue; may be due to the fact that im forced to alt + f4 after freezing and it may end up corrupting it.
how do i get my game save file back, or is there a way to download it off the internet somewhere? i genuinely don't want to repeat everything I've already played..

if you had steam cloud saves enabled there is a way to retrieve the last few files that were uploaded for a game so i think you might have some luck there. in general though i suggest making multiple saves as you progress and periodically going into your documents folder and copying the spider-man 2 folder to another location to back up your saves

Having this issue as well, the game is deleting all and any kind of saves it can and leaving no trace of them on my pc

I'm pretty sure this is what happened to me, My game froze so I decided to forced to quit the game and then decided to get off the game, when I got on the next day my whole game started up as if I was new to the game and starting a new save file. I was wondering if anyone found a fix for this? Please lmk I had finished a lot of the game/side missions and really don't want to restart lmao

The game itself is corrupted. Validated it three times and same results 631 files corrupted. Am sure it did same thing to theirs previous Spider-man game. As sometimes it happened to some devs that released the creations version by mistakes rather then a (Made and polished versions)

Okay So everyone i figured out how to restore the save, this comes from insomniac games themselves and was a issue when the game came out on console as well, so to get your save back you have to press new game, then after like literally 2 seconds quit the game to the main menu during the first cutscene with harry, and then it will say load game and continue, and your save should be right there, granted its probably missing a few hours of progress but hey atleast you don't have to restart https://support.insomniac.games/hc/en-us/articles/27890145797645-Can-you-recover-my-lost-data

Game will not create Save Files

My game is not creating save files anywhere on my pc. I've checked all possible locations as well as alternative locations. In fact, I'm not sure how I can even resume my progress at all, but I can. So the question is where are these files located if I can resume my save. I know it sounds crazy but I think its not saving on my pc at all and somehow saving through an insomniac service. My save got deleted today as well in game but it magically reappeared when i hit new game and quit to main menu. So like I said it's like its saving but through the game or some other service and not my pc itself. Cloud sync is disabled as well. But i would like to get this issue fixed so i can back up my save files. But like i said there aren't any files to back up anywhere on my pc

This happened to me as well. I thought I was going crazy. "How could the game safe if there aren't files for it on the PC?" Well I kept looking and everyone is right. It IS in C:\USERS\USERNAME\DOCUMENTS\ except for me it was in the user folder inside the documents folder INSIDE THE ONEDRIVE folder. for some odd reason. But if you cant find it, its 100% in ur C:\Users\%USERNAME%\OneDrive\Documents\Marvel's Spider-Man 2\randomsteamnumber folder

I have contacted support #3742 is the case, and sent my dxdiag document and others and in response I got an email saying and I quote:
"It's unclear to us why this is happening on your system, the folders seem to be configured correctly.

As a workaround, have you tried reinstalling the game?"
I have reinstalled numerous times but it still occurs

I think i might have found the issue. If you're on windows 11, controlled folder access tends to block things that try to write to the documents folder!! Type controlled folder access in start, go into the setting and when you see spiderman blocked under the blocked history, enable on device and try again!!

Bro thank you this is the issue! After adding the game as exception on controlled folder access I can now save the game. its so weird that it only happened after ive cleared out 31% of the game though, previously saves were working great. Unfortunately I lost 6 hours of progress... so I need to re-do them again. What a bummer
